I've had a cyclist clip my mirror while stationary in a major traffic jam. The only resulting damage to speak of was a few of his spokes.

Not helpful. Because, I have never met a newbie who knew how to do everything and how to do everything very well straight off the bat. Otherwise we wouldn't call it learning, we'd call it... knowing. How is someone supposed to learn without making mistakes or know if they can do something if they don't ever try in the first place? Thanks for red rep.
