    Angry AMPS and Triumphs?

    Hey all,

I was in AMPS yesterday drooling, when I noticed they had removed all of the Triumphs from the shop floor.
(I wanted to compare a speedmaster to a 883 superlow)
I found a peon running around with a couple of bits of paper in his hands, and asked him what the deal was.
Apparently Harley has had the pressure on them to become a Harley only dealer for quite some time now, I guess the HOG rally (and important Harley people) last month had something to do with the decision, but no more Triumph for AMPS in auckland

The only place to look for a new Triumph in all of Dorkland would now be Holeshot on the shore. is that correct? or is their any other dealers that I havent found?

According to my father in law (harley rider currently visiting us from the USA ) Its happening in the USA too.. several dealerships in Denver where he lives, have had to move out any other brands from their harley showroom. Some have just given up and only sell harley, and others have a second showroom, in which they are allowed to sell "others". Quite strict rules about it, from what he was saying. He also suggested its been a sort of new thing over the last year, one at a time, they are all changing.

I understand that by bullying other brands out of "their" dealerships, they get to remain exclusive and it works for their Image. But it really sucks for the potential buyer now. no way to see the bike you want side by side.

Holeshot are friendlier anyway. You haven't lost anything there. Go buy the Triumph and give the finger to HD
And yes, there is a significant thread on this already.

Was in Welly a couple of weeks ago and Wellington Motorcycles have had to drop Triumph too. I think you'll find also that Cyclespot have two showrooms because Honda and BMW won't share floor space. I'd like to see a big shop that did them all, but I guess we'll never see that.

Motomart in the Hutt has BMW and Honda in the same showroom, and Ducati...

WM never had Triumph as far as I am aware. They do have Suzuki. Triumph in Wellyville is the crowd on the one way system: Motorad?

WMC did have triumph since inception of the new company, right up till, hmm, think I looked at a 2006 so a little after that for sure. But they also had Guzzi for a while.

Apparently Suzuki don't make dirtbikes for wgtn market.

For years Honda in NZ did the same. Was shocked in UK dealers had several brands on same floor.

    r.
Correct F5 Dave. We had Triumph from the rebirth right up until we'd had enough of Triumph NZ's shit service and dropped the francise. That was when the Street Triple was about to arrive. Can't quite remember when that was.

We've been selling a few dirtbikes of late too just for fun.

Honda like their dealers to be one brand only, the local parts guy was explaining this to me one day. I was wondering what he'd make of Peter Stevens in Melbourne when we called in on the way to PI. That must've been an eye opener for him.
