Decriminisation is the logical first step, just as Civil Unions were the first step towards equality and fairness for Homosexuals. There are still a lot of Kiwis, predominantly from Ed & Grubbers generation that have been rounded up like sheep into believing what they do and it will take a long time for that to wash out. Decriminalisation with strict limits for age/posession, better testing technology to test for actual impairment and quality education and awareness right through our society. It's a big job but it's gotta be better than creating 30,000 criminals each year. The cost could be offset somewhat by saving all the money currently being wasted from pops through to courts and prisons.
The liquor companies stand to lose and the legal highs industry would disappear. Foodstuffs & Progressive might be able to offset their losses in liquor with buds at the checkout.![]()
