But, the government is not looking in to legalising cannabis.

But, because prohibition hasn't worked my new political party will decriminalise lots of stuff.

Maybe... but I'd be very surprised if they did coz they're protecting us from ourselves and would have to let loose all of those criminals from jail along with removing criminal convictions for all minor cannabis convictions. Other than that, sure, the politicians will listen

Funny how the legal highs guy hit the nail on the head, easiest way to get rid of synthetic cannabis is to legalize the real thing. Seems to me he has the most to lose from this statement, no matter how true it is.

It'll be a long time before the government seriously looks at law changes regarding dope, too much at stake... police funding, crooked politicians, easy convictions, not to mention all the work involved in clearing peoples records and letting masses out of jail. I don't see it happening any time soon.

Yup, but the onesidedness of the debate due to blustering arguments from the prohibition side (sounds familiar eh) showed that that stance against decriminalisation is illogical in the current climate.

Unless the cannabis is majorly taxed, as anything fun in NZ is, then synthetics will be safe-ish (lol love that) and probably cheaper? That's purely speculation on my side though.
The "pohibition isn't working so legalise it" argument is not the err smartest, yes it's a good point that the current system isn't 100% effective, but petty theft happens all the time and that is also illegal.

I don't see it any time soon either. The only real reason, that we won't be told by mediafags, would be the revenue gathering
Then our lovely gang people could have a legitimate income!

The audience interrupting what had a small amount of potential of being a reasonable debate fucked it up a bit.
The decrim side avoided quite a few questions, and there was a lot of pointless of topic waffling.

But, it's TV and most people watching it seemed to have thought it was a superb debate showing that marijuana is fab and that synth is cool.

I've smoked my share of synthetic shit when I first stopped smoking weed, it its cheaper by weight but nowhere near the quality of even bush weed, and I'm sure most would agree. If they got rid of the bullshit piss tests and decriminalized weed for personal use that would kill the synthetic market. And as far as the theft analogy goes, if I grow a plant and smoke it at home who's the victim?

Decriminalization wouldn't give the gangs a legitimate source of income, dealing would still be illegal. (I'd be happy to string up some lights in my cupboard and grow my own). Admittedly the only way to take the profits off the gangs would be to actually legalize it, but the UN won't allow anyone to actually legalize it (it's not even fully legal in Amsterdam, the cafes still have to buy from illegal growers and can only sell small amounts)

Why would the gangs stop selling it it's legal though? It'd still be profitable. Not everybody is going to grow their own, look at tobacco and alcohol, it's considerably cheaper to DIY but only a small percentage do

If I were a gang cunt selling pot, and it became legal to do so I would have my shit on shelves and be selling to the public

Profits will shrink to a point its not viable for them, the legal weed cost now made up of mostly government tax.

Koreans will start growing it and selling it cheap at the Sunday markets....

Many would rather give their money to gang cunts than government cunts

maybe its much the same anyhoos? your giving your money to cunts who are going to blow it on coke and bitches whether they are in a beehive or a heavily fenced gang property

I must be in a bad mood today....
