Lol. The awesome thing about seeing photos or video of awesome cars from the 70s, is seeing the amount of body-roll etc.

Even an MX-5 would handle heaps better than the old stuff. (Shit did I say that out loud...?)

It's interesting even comparing my 2006 Falcon with the 1997 Jag. Both rear-wheel-drive full-size saloons weighing around 1700-1800Kg, 4-litre straight sixes with 4-stage autos. The Falcon is nothing flash, just a "beige machine" which provides a comfortable ride with reasonably acceptable performance. But compared to the Jag, it's really spec'd.

The Jag suspension is designed for refined and gentle "wafting" along. Pushed hard into corners, it wallows and rolls. The transmission also is designed for "limo" type usage, and by comparison is reluctant to kick-down for more spirited driving. The speed-variable steering is vague and mushy around town.

The Falcon is a driver's car, the Jag a passenger's car. But which do I like driving the most...?

Dare say it's the same between my Rover and a Ford/Holden.

I give up a bit of performance for a nicer ride

Also Rover P6's look like fun

I always find it amusing jumping from late model falcodores to something like an E39 540i BMW, and the BMW drives 10x better
Even an E34 is more of a drivers car than most late Australian built things, mind you, that's why the Australian ones are cheap eh?

    Sort of similar here

Our Marina 'joggles' down the road, bugger-all creature comforts and zilch performance.

The Thunderbird 'wafts' down the road with heaps of creature comforts and 'adequate' performance.

The Series II Land Rover I had with a Holden 186 was WAY better than the one with the standard 4 cylinder motor.

But the 186 revs lower, so the overdrive was an essential - unlike the heater, which, being a factory accessory, was not fitted in either vehicle .

Yes it was, you just had to cut a hole in the floorpan to access it.

I think it was more a victor shape, not sure about the lotus version either. I had a mk1 consul but it looked more like a mk1 cortina, not like the one in the sweeny.
