Its not your bike so we can't offend you. There's this economic downturn thingy I've heard about on the telly + those things are as interesting as a 1/2 finished plate of sick.

But the real point is with modern fridges that the ice cubes get defrosted if you don't use a lot of them. used to be able to get those disposable ice cube bags that would have fixed the issue for infrequent ice cube users like myself, but no idea where to buy them & too lazy to do an internet search, but strangely will type several lines on a mostly unrelated thread.


So can we criticise your bike now? What kind of dirtbike is it? Something exciting?, or did you buy one of those dull 4 stroke thingys?

Geez, you a hard man! Yep, I've heard about that recession thingy on a couple of occasions. I'm just comparing it to what else is available during the same recession and thought it was priced in the middle of the range, but sounds like it needs to have a rock bottom asking price to generate any interest.

Its tricky comparing TM prices...

There are the advertised prices and then the prices bikes actually sell for... As has been discussed here many bikes sit there a loooong time...

Look at my recent purchase from a dealer, 2005 Triumph Sprint ST with 22,000km on the dial (Ok it IS an import) but complete with a few extra months rego and fitted with GIVI hard bag, $8K.... Yet there are 2 other 2005's on there with more kms, no bags and more expensive...

Prices for used bikes are cruel at the moment unless its a hot item.... Or maybe a classic.

Just looked through TM an there's a couple in there up to $2000 cheaper with less or similar mileage for the same age,,,and their both in shops that have their very own finance plans.

Bit of a coincidence but I own a really tidy 2006 S83 with 36,000k's on the clock but mine is black and its in K's not miles. i enjoy the bike but overall while its not a boring bike....it's not exactly blow your socks off exciting. I can't imagine it being someones dream bike. No way would I expect anything close to $7,200 for a red one in miles. If it had K's, forward controls, after market bars and a decent after market seat then maybe $7k for a private sale would be do-able. I guarantee if you took your S83 to a dealer you'd get around 4-5k as a trade. If I was going to put my whip on TM, I'd aim for 6k and probably be open to going less if the offer was reasonable. Even then, I don't think anyone would be making me an offer any time soon. My 2 cents is that if you want to sell it you need to go lower....much lower.

OP - I usually go by my un-scientific rule of $1k below a dealer's price, just so it's attractive enough for a private buyer. Otherwise a buyer would prefer to go to a dealer.

I guess if you want to avoid loosing heaps on a bike you have to buy right in the first place and keep it for years. I think when they put the reg for big bikes up that became the end of reasonable resale value.

True enough. Anything over 700cc [and a good machine] is worth spending the extra rego on. I take exception to the 650cc class only because I refuse to pay an extra 100 odd a year for a measly 50cc difference over my 600cc.
