Ta, I keep thinking I should get some but never get around to it (they do work well, so I am told), I'm usually ok with callus build up on my palms but having not ridden for a wee while it showed! Meths on the popped blister works well for getting the callus started if you feel like some self abuse....

Boss lady, use the Sandpit, it's winter, the sand is hard / compacted and easy riding (relatively) and pick the easy trails to potter around on, there's plenty to pick from, take your time and enjoy chasing the cows and deer! The best training you can do now is seat (standing) time and practising the basic skills but at your own pace.

MTB is the best. Cardio, core strength, bike balance, vision........ the list goes on.

$7 a day up at Woodhill MTB park and you can even hire a bike if you don't have one.
we normally do a 2hr ride every Sat or Sun depending on what other plans are on.
Not everyone does every week but there is someone around keen for a ride.

This has been the single most reason why I have got better on the KTM.

Have to agree with you there mate.

Was going to suggest going shearing and the bonus is ya get paid to work out.

I remember years ago I worked on a farm with merinos ( no fuggin sheep jokes please) and between pulling sheep out to crutch (did all crutching ourselves) and footrotting was the best fitness training for rugby and was good fitness running around mustering.

Went to a party where there was a bunch of gym bunny guys that thought they were tough started having arm wrestles.

I was just watching when one of the girlfriends suggested her winning boyfriend gave me a go.

I beat him twice with both arms with his girlfriend screaming at him to beat me and when I beat him she asked where I worked out and I said a woolshed.
Poor bastard was then abused for how he worked out three times a week at the gym and couldn't beat a guy that just goes to work..

You must of seen a presser doing a 6 stand , on full fleece full belly ewes, on an old crank down or pully wheel press. If I can still do that and sheepo at my age, Im a happy chappy when it comes to fitness.

No ifs about it here fella, I am sure the shearers would let me know if I wasn't keeping up. I only do the sheds for thE $$$$ now, used to enjoy it, and no tramps have made some sheds easier, but it is a young fellas game. Thats why most pressers go shearing, because it is not as much hard work.
But I can out work most of the 20 something year old young chaps that are in our gangs. 2 days in the shed is a whole week of driving a truck, wages wise.

Currently doing the weekend warrior 1 training programme.
Cardio and a bit of strength training.

You might as well join up, and then cancel, as the first month is free, but you can get a good idea of how the program works, all the excercises and strecthing routines, and base it off that going forward.

I try for running 3-4 times a week, two strength training sessions, and one day on the bike a week which is around an hour or so at the moto-x track.
update on how you're going with this programme?

Was going really well, enjoyable almost once you get into the swing of it. But had a bit of a setback with the bugs doing the rounds at the moment, so been off for two weeks with flu and a few other bugs, back into it today.

Definitely noticed an increase in riding fitness/strength, can ride harder, with more aggression for longer periods, so pretty happy with it overall.
I think its perfect for my level of riding and what I want to achieve, as well as a good overall exercise programme as well. Only place I probably really let myself down now is what I eat/drink.

The best exercise routine is the one you actually do. Have you checked out the weekend warrior program that was posted? Did it require weights, or a gym, or was it something you can do in your lounge with no equipment?

Getting the right app has always been the best place to start. Make sure you check plenty of them out before you begin to exercise. Katie Sandwina credited having the right app for her awesome fitness.

    Cheers will check that out.

You do a weights training style programme which you can either do at gym, or they also have an alternative which uses a suspension type trainer which you can do at home, just hook it into a door frame and you use body weight. Thats what I went for as its easy and means you can do it all from home, and if you leave it setup if possible, i find it helps to motivate me to do it.

I take it you're joking. The app has nothing to do with fitness, or this thread for that matter, is meant to help you monitor what you're eating, calorie intake etc. ain't nothing wrong with watching what ya eat
