flabby old shirtless voice-is-shot Paul Stanley? Yeah Nah.
KISS look so cool and sound so bad. They've written the odd good song ("Strutter" "Detroit Rock City" but generally they are bad. Real bad). Very telling comment from Gene Simmons in an interview I saw "What's your greatest achievement Gene?" "I am an astute businessman".... alllll righty then.

Gotto put my 2c worth in here. I work all day with teenagers and the really amusing thing about it is if you ask any of the students over 16 what they are listening to it has probably come straight out of Mum and Dad's collection. About 5 years ago I mentioned Stiff Little Fingers to one of the Girls and the next day there was a copy of Nobodys Heroes on my desk. This got me interested in what they were listening to and it suprised me how many of the have the likes of Bon Jovi and Fleetwood Mac on their i-pods.
The modern shit (and yes in my opinion most of it is shit) is really only listened too by the really young students (third form or year nine if your a newer model).
But then again I'm old enough to remember Saturday Night Fever and the whole disco shit thing (vomit, vomit) and appreciate that main stream music has always had a large element of shit in it. Most of the popular shit is more about marketing than talent.
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
In one of William Gibson's books (Idoru, IIRC) he refers to it as the "ever present, neverchanging, digital now" or something like that. the idea is that anything is available to anyone at anytime. And think about it, odds are if it has lasted for a while, its because it has something going for it. good stuff rising to the top etc.
They should have given you a GOOD SLF album: Hanx or Inflammable Material. But still. they are still touring by the way. saw them at the now demolished Civic in Manchester Street just before the earthquakes.
I owned a "Death to Disco" badge at one point. what a dick.

SLF - always loved their cover of Doesn't Make It All Right and Bloody Dub of Nododys Heroes - I guess I was more into the Ska sound.
The Disco bit is interesting too because to me the 70s is more about the likes of Cockney Rebel and Jethro Tull than Donna Summer and the Bee Gees, still each to his own.
