Cheers for the replies guys. Although the K1 does looks rather nice, I've only ever owned a 250 (EX250) so a jump straight to a 1L is huge. I'd rather increase my skill level on a 600 before making that leap.

Fair enough. What's funny of course about that though, the people with your attitude are the ones most likely to he safe on whatever they get.

The ones who feel they're good enough for a thou, often come unstuck in a big way.

636 is the model you want. Who cares about the rego difference the bikes are fantastic.

That is not an '05 636, that's an 04 636. It's probably just registered as an 05 because well, that's when it was registered.

2005 was the year that Kawasaki added a lot of new goodies to the ZX6R.

Quite big difference in power (117 vs 128 hp at the crank).
Changed from straight EFI to direct fuel injection.
    Upgraded brakes
    Upgraded rear suspension
More comfortable riding position (handlebars a little further back so less weight on wrists)
Aaaaaannnnndd 2005 was the year that Kawasaki started running the slipper clutch on the ZX6R, which is a bloody fantastic bit of kit.

    So yeah, 05 > 04.

You can get an 05 for under $7k, just have to wait and see what comes up.

Also, pretty much all the ZX6R's in the year range you're looking at are going to be 636cc. The 599cc versions were sold for race homologation reasons, so there weren't all that many of them.

The extra 36cc gives you a bit more power and mid range torque than the other 600 supersports in their respective years and it's only an extra $100 per year for rego, bugger all really.

    $114 a year.

Which is fuck all out of the annual cost of running a bike.

$114! I was thinking $500 or so the way everyone goes on about it. Your right, that really is nothing in the scheme of things. A tank of gas in the car costs that these days.

Cheers for the heads up Vinz0r and description on the pre/post 05 models. Will continue the hunt

Why, prey tell, is the 636 the one you want?

The 6RR makes more power, and weighs less.

Doesn't have a fan for cooling though, so not the ideal commuter.

I was under the impression that the 599 variants of the 636's were making a little less peak power and torque.

I thought the 636 versions made a little more torque and had flatter torque and power curves making it a bit more streetable.

To anyone still interested in a supersport around this price range, I have decided after spending a few weeks in Australia that I'm pissing of over here to live as soon as I can liquidate some assets so my 02 R6 is up for sale as soon as I get back.
    PM if you're interested.

Also my DR650 and my AE101 Levin are for sale and possibly my AW11 as well.

Hey cool...im in the same boat cbr600, zx6, Gsx 1k or zx10 for around 7-8k....im not seeing a hell of a lot of difference between the 600s and the 1k in price, weight and seat height.

That's what I'd always thought. The 636 had more low and mid-range power to make it a better street bike against the 6RR's peaky top end and flasher suspension and slipper clutch which made it faster on the track. All of the specs I can find though suggest that the 636 actually had more peak power each year and was faster in a straight line out of the box.

    E.g.
    2003 636 125hp

    2003 6RR 118hp

Will you organise & pay for new WOF + REGO for successful bidder? sunshines11 (6 ) 2:55 pm, Sat 5 Oct
    No I won't. 4:19 pm, Sat 5 Oct
if i pay ontop of the cost will u put new reg and wof on it ??.. box1999 (225 ) 8:37 pm, Sun 6 Oct
Yup I sure will 9:17 pm, Sun 6 Oct
If he's willing to get a WOF for it for $45 then why the fuck hasn't he? It'd be very likely to make a lot more than $45 difference to the sell price. It could well be that he's got more money than time but it's a little off putting.
