Hmmm very true.
Next question, is there any chance someone who lives/works in Auckland might be willing to go take look at one of the bikes if I managed to get the prices down a bit? Being based in Wellington makes it a little hard for me..
Found anything you like yet?
Have seen a few pop up on trademe that you could make offers on. To be honest I think they're all too bloody expensive, but you could try your luck.
Get this for <6k and that's a pretty good deal. 06 ZX6R.

Or for something a bit different to what you've been looking at. Ducati 749.

Maybe this guy a bit less, 750 K4 GSXR is a pretty sought after bike.

Again, make an offer on this GGSXR600, ya never know.

And another..

If that ZX6R was available when I was looking I'd have seriously considered it if he'd drop the price a bit.
Hey mate,
Yeah have all of those on my watch list (which admittedly is getting rather large). Am pretty much just playing the waiting game at the moment.
Getting a bike is a very big WANT but not really a 'need' at this stage. I also figure the longer it takes for the one to appear the more money I will have to put towards it. Upping the budget to 8-10K opens up the options a lot. Saw a perfect condition, 2012 CBR600RR ABS with only 1200 on the clock go for 10k in the weekend! If only....
Then there is also ensuring I have enough left for the insurance (kiwibike quote ~$700 for a 9k bike) and I also want to get some new boots and pants as my old ones are looking a bit shoddy and started leaking water last winter I rode!
Avoid the Ducati. No one needs those cunting problems in their life...Trust me.
Hi Mate
Real bikers ALWAYS NEED a new bike ... wants are for wannabes ...
(Oh yeah .. avoid the Ducati ... Drew is only partly right ... only have one if you are a) a good mechanic b) already own a bike so you will have something to ride while the Ducati's not running ... )
"So if you meet me, have some sympathy, have some courtesy, have some taste ..."
Hate to agree with you... but... The BMW and KTM get me around, the 900ss keeps my bike recovery and mechanics skills very current!
To the OP, if you can't by a good mid sized sports bike for less than $6k, you are not trying very hard, anything from 2000 on is more bike than most mortals can ride, pick any one of them in good condition and get riding. My sons 06 R6 was sold for under $6k (40,000kms, immaculate) a couple of months ago. Make serious offers, cash is very much a useful commodity.
Bit of a shameless plug but this could be what you're looking for...........
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...eds-a-new-home!
B17DUF
Same model and colour as mine!
...I'd buy a piece of shit and spend the other 4.5 on a holiday with my wife...she has been putting up with all of my motorcycle mania for 25 years...the one before that was lucky...she only had seven years of it...but thats retrospective...a Ural with a chair is always good for getting the shopping home, a 1200 Bandit will mix with the sportsbike charlies but, a Sportster will always make you smile and get you home......
...
I'd like this

“- He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.”
That's a nice looking bike. Price probably isn't that far off considering the alternatives on trademe.
I managed to grab a mint condition '07 CBR600RR so not in the market anymore but if I was I'd have seriously considered it.
Am sure you'll still get a fair bit of interest at that price. May need to wait until after Xmas mind you. Everyone's feeling poor around this time...
