OK we all know the drill.
Purchased the bike.... as an investment... well not really I purchased it cause I liked it
Fact that I will not lose my undies is just a bonus.

BUT I must keep it standard.
    Should not be to hard.

So you can rule out all those mods already listed.

But I have to say that 180km puss box speedo and the stupid red flashing speed light already is pissing me off and I have not even seen it yet.

This will fix the issue. Only one small problem with this option... cost and not keeping it original.

I read the odd CMM etc esp the ones with 2 strokes, but what I can't understand is the plonkers that invest thousands buying original grips & green plated bolts, it must be standard at all costs rivet counters. The machine came out as the manufacturers impression of what was easy & cheap to make. Its not a religious artifact.

Ok there are some tragic aftermarket trinkets. Cut down the mudguards with a wood saw & fit fake carbon teensie indicators & maybe a rash of purple ally bolts & I'll vomit on you.

I like it as is. On the other hand I'm waiting for a mate to sell me his project RZ500.- FZR wheels, FZR400 front end USD forks proper brakes, RGV SW cw proper linkages, modified braced frame (Steel RZ model) Nikons, RS fairing, minus a million kilos & some extra neddies. Will be good when its finished, but its been in his lounge for 10 years (no glass case, just as a convenient place to work on it as money comes to hand).

Was the Brass Monkey down south. Yup, my mate Carey had an RG500 also.
We had no worries starting the 500's the next morning. Was funny watching all the 4-strokes getting battery jump starts though !!

RZ500's...been there and done that with something like 5 in the family in one hit. Had a photo of 4 running at the same time on drive way. Don't tell Greenpeace.

My father bought one new for his 50th B/day ( I would have been 20) and always wanted one. 10 years later I had one and despite being a Yamaha man most of my life, was a little disillusioned and sold it after doing about 5000km in 5 years.

I guess my problem was I'd sent too much time on real 2 stroke GP bikes and I just found it a lardy road bike with really tall gearing. That and every time I road it, it broke something, somewhere, no matter what I did, or spent on it. That and I realised I didn't realy like riding on the road.

Best thing aI did apart from sell it, was put a 44 tooth rear sprocket on it, up from 38...wahay, all over by 200km/h but off the throttle wheelstands no issue and real world gearing.

10 yaers after selling itr I bought another road bike (my first 4 stroke since a CB100), but was the bike that the RZ was a leader to, an OW01. It's better at what it's trying to be than the RZ ever was (racer for road), while also being more at home where it was built for (race tracK). Not into 4 strokes, but it works.

Best thing with a mint RZ or RZV is not turn them into a tart's handbag with shit loads of crappy bling.

Funny little fact that most people don't know is that yamaha built more RZV's than RZ and RD's.....I saw a letter from yamaha years ago which had the product numbers for each. The combined total was about 3 or 6000, - can't remember now, but in the RC30, OW01 type totals.

Which is why I think my mates one will be considerably better than the factory's interpretation. It has seriously shed a few 10s of kilos. just the pipes were made heavy to tame the bike down. I hefted some of the pipes expecting them to be RZ350 weight (which I was readily familiar with at the time) but got a shock that they were like twice the weight. And there was 4. The other gubbins on them was insane & pointless.

    First ride.....!

Does not have the same punch of the RG500, the power band on the Rg is very narrow, while the RZ is fat and wide.
The RG makes so much power in a short space of time you make sure it does not happen when you are going in to or around a corner. Cause its just plain scary.

The RZ.. well it is easy to ride, and I ride it like a high revving 4 stroke. It does not scare you. Still has the two stroke power band and its good.
It is faster from A - B... cause you are not waiting to put on the power.

The acceleration of the RG is just mean.

The RZV was more smooth and I liked it, it was easier to ride and the power built nice and smooth, but still in a great rush. Just slower and more usable than the RG.

I think I can ride the RZ faster than the RG... but the RG is in the shed... getting some treatment for depression.
(fact is you are always nice to a new wife, and the old wife is like a warn tyre.)

    Spose I should add pictures.

Told wife I will not F#ck with it, BUT I cant have rusty exhaust pipes on it! and the originals are no longer available.
BUT I have found some new ones.. I have to say they look funny with tails and are lighter. Have to be good for the environment dear. Why is everything good for the environment sooo expensive?

your logic is impeccable, but probably need rejetting, seen some mod the convoluted intake system with large HardlyAbleson shape K&N type filters slipped in between the fairing panels.

blah blah borrowing the planet from our children etc etc. ZipZap. Did I just confirm that purchase?

Ohh look another ignitech cdi has just appeared on my desk (ok about an hour ago, but I'm telling the story here).

Mr Dave.... had to laugh. All your comments are not good for the bank account, it all comes down to what I see modified bike sell for compared to the standard version. You know what the end resalt is if you ride them... modified. have Too!

I have seen a heavy modified RG500 go for $13,000, looked reasonably standard . An RG for $10-13k will sell if its a reasonable example.

The RZ500 have be come expensive.. the were cheap once, like dirt cheap. I read a story, the dude sold his RZ500 for 1600 pounds from memory..... no one wanted them...? I have owned lots of RDs and RZs. But never the big one. Very pleased.

    Fuck it spits out oil.!
RG does not like this thing. I had to clean the whole rear end.

Only ever do that for a bike, after all women should clean their own rear end. No matter the condition.

I just knew young Aaron couldn't leave it alone as a standard unmolested original factory spec bike. It's just the pipes and then the air box/filters, next a shock and fork kit, update the brakes/calipers.
He should just gut and paint the chambers, decoke and repack the stingers to remove all of that oil residue etc.
Have ridden both a RZ and RG ,the RZ felt like a road bike the RG a race bike more alive [twitchy, nervous, light, responsive] get it singing and a real buzzz only problem you wouldn't have your license for very long.
