Same theory as when the 747 got shot down over the Sea of Japan a few years ago. The Americans learnt a lot about the Russian response on that occasion. Although I very much doubt FH 370 is anything but a tragic accident.

You know - that still amazes me... the USSR shot down a full passenger plane from New York, which included a US Senator, in the middle of the cold-war and then lied about it for a week or so - and WW3 didn't start. Makes you wonder if they'd ever really push the button.

Don't forget TWA 800 that just happened to fall apart while the navy was testing missiles...

Is that the laser cannon that they used to try and shoot down that ufo? Fuck that was funny, that thing sidestepped like a ballet dancer.

    Mayebe another tall story.
    who knows
Dunno if this has bveen sorted yet (I've not been watching the news, online or elsewhere) but if, and it is a big if, the wreckage that is currently being investigated off Perth does in fact turn out to be MH370, it seems that the co-ordinates where it was located are only ~150m distant (over 3,164nm) from the equivalent coordinates to Urumpi airport in Xinjiang.
The only difference is that one latitude is North, the other is South. One press of one (the wrong button) button away.

Similar. This was the one was a spin-off from the ASAT or MIACL (designed to shoot satellites). Most of the ground based ASAT's failed due to atmosphere dispersion. So they went back to the drawing board for ground based operations and came up with the ADAM. This thing initially just wacked out enough light to blind targeting cameras on missiles. Then when it got upgraded it could heat up warheads. Then the navy changed the configuration again so they could heat up fuel tanks.......thus the LAWS was born.

Problem is time, ASAT took about 30-60 seconds (in space), ADAM about 1-2 seconds (on very explosive payloads that could be heated - otherwise you got jack) and the LAWS is supposed to be good after 10-20 seconds. So if a plane is flying past you as Mach 2+, unless its clear skies forget it.

But drones are slow. So handy for those.

From the latest news reports it seems like our theory was right, except for the hiffing then out the back of a C-130.
They probably just bulldozed the thing off the end of the runway at high tide and let the sea do the rest.
