Would we give a shit if he had a collection of Japanese swords? Russian military hats? Mongolian cod pieces? American flags?

Kiddie porn, that was the guy from the christian morality party wasn't it? Or did he collect the kiddies?

I've read the first third of Mein Kampf (English translation) before I gave up - it's nonsensical drivel, but gives you a lot of insight into one of the most important men in the 20th century. Why we should admonish someone for owning a book is a bit beyond me - seeking to politically vilify someone for owning a fascist text is extraordinarily ironic.

Someone wanna tell me why the left is so anxious to cozy up to this bozo?

The Nazi stuff notwithstanding, he's a convicted fraudster, some time pornographer and full time self promoter.
He's also on bail awaiting trial for stealing the intellectual property of any number of people, yet we were treated to the spectacle of him on stage with union leader Helen Kelly.

Why is Harawira so keen on him? Is it the money?
The Greens? What could they possible have in common with Herr Schimdt (except of course, the youth vote)?

The other question that no one seems to want to even ask, never mind answer - why would you start a political party if you don't qualify to stand as a candidate?
Where are all the people who scream about major polictical parties trying to buy elections? What do they think about this blatant attempt by this POS to influence the next Govt of NZ so as to stop his extradition?

Mongolian cod pieces you say? What's the market doing?

As for Kim Dot Com, he is my New Zealander of the Year. Every year.

Purely because with a few tricks and baubles he has convinced NZ that he is hard done by, and a victim and not a truly awful person.

Having said that, my contempt for NZ government toadying to the US (actually to the RIAA, so Lars Ultrarich) and the complete fucking cockup and legal morass that it has created is up there with my contempt for KDC.

They should all be put in a boat and towed somewhere 2500 nm SW of Perth and not allowed to come back till they find that plane.

I note that Germany is preparing to put Mein Kampf back in print. For "academic reasons".

    fraudster: true
pornographer: awesome if true. Is that how he met Mona?
    self promoter: abundantly true.

    "awaiting trial"

I think it clear that KDC personally, and arguably Mega committed no crime in NZ that would require NZ to extradite him to the US. The complete fucked up bungling surrounding the issue of the warrants, the conduct of the raid, and its aftermath support that view. Thats a relatively uninformed legal opinion on a matter clearly sub judice. What I think is clear is the complicity of our gubblemunt and its various organs with a more or less random FBI/US government search for a scapegoat by the RIAA.

Think about it for a lttle while: the argument that Google, Youtube, and various other (listed on the US stock exchange) large US corporates engage in essentially the same conduct as Mega did is valid: and Mega demonstrably did comply, when requested with RIAA takedown requests, as do the others.

Large corporates rule Mrka, and their politicians must be seen by their corporate sponsors to be "clamping down on internet piracy": but of course they cannot go up against the other large corporate sponsors (or tolerators) of it. They can't really go up against anyone in Yrp, either, so they search around, see that this Mega dude lives in NZ, and they put the lean on our already very acquiescent government.

I dont really care what political stripe you are, anyone interested in due process and the rule of law should be supporting a win for Mr Dotcom.

    source please.

Also people still read works by Karl Marx, Lenin and Engels, notwithstanding the fall of Carmewnism.

People still read the bible and it is as hateful and violent as Mein Kampf. We should ban that too.

    Damn right!

Re: the rest of your post regarding big business and corporates...
A lot of similarities ring true with the business practices, shell companies and bank involvements of pre-war and during WW2 Germany.
I'm currently reading about the funding of Germany's war machine and the practices used then are still being used today. Sadly.

Edit: I'll try to track down where I read about the re-publication.

What book? sounds like something I would like to read. I do like history.

The ironic thing of course that the big banks were invariably owned by Jews.... and a lot of them managed to preserve and enhance their fortunes prior to and after WW2

Ford and GM made a lot of money off Germany during WWII.
