Went for a drive in a 1911 Mitchell a couple of days ago.

Found this pic on the net, it is the car I went in.
The roof was down and we hit 35mph into town...

Bought new in 1911 by Mr Cook (Cooks Corner in Riwaka) for around $1200. A Model T at the time was less than $200.
The WM on the grill is part of the original number plate (WaiMea).

So I said to the nurse that I have weird noise from my rear end.
She insisted I drop my daks (bike lifts are handy for this)....

Not many DR's where it could have been happening slowly for the last 50 years though...

Yeah, I shouldn't complain. Having it locked in the same shed as the Freewind wouldn't have helped though.

Trouble is it's all across the Border. Is anyone crossing Cook Straight with empty trailer any time soon?

Thanks Tazz - if I can't meet it off a ferry, might give you call.

hi Struan - glad it looks like your gonna achieve an early resolution to your current mechanical woes with the Singer - sorry I don't have a trailer but if it needs someone to help get it aboard a ferry for you, sing out - assume the problem with those gears is simply metal fatigue after all these years - cheers Stephen

Not sure if I can help in any way Struan, but I would go to Picton to give you a hand if need be. I have a 7x4 trailer if that's any use?

Big thanks for all the offers of help.
If things pan out, an Ashvagas business might have an empty truck coming back from up north next weekend.
    Fingers crossed...

    Hi Struan
Looking at that diff image, possibly the shimming of the contact areas may need a second look.
I could be wrong, but it seems to be a bit high on the teeth.
I can see your attraction to older machines though. looks like a great project.

Awesome attitude and heaps of fun no doubt. One forgets they didn't have "real" roads back then and they were a hell of a lot more capable than the soft roaders we have now.=. Even so some of those passes with the elderly braking technology would fair put the wind up at times!
