But they don't have a green one. You can't have a rainbow without a green one. You're lying, stop it.

I see J boy is in the news again... The conspiracist in me wonders if they are getting rid of him before electric cars go mainstream.
Despite all his horrid anti biker comments, he is the one fella that would stand up and say how crazy and more expensive electric cars are, not to mention those driverless ones also...

*hipster conspiracist I think you mean; all the regular ones are still fixated on the anti-electric conspiracies. Damnit, still another 5 months until next season of TG, has he been on anything else worth watching?

He's been at the petrol again. Some of us plebs would be happy with a cheap wee electric car, ya know, the type that will last for 50+ years and only ever need a battery changed. Wonder what the cost trade off of that would be? Other than less cars being manufactured at some point in time, mebee.

Do you think that will be allowed in the age of planned obselesence... We used to have light bulbs that never burned out...
Once electric goes mainstream only 'approved' cars and battery systems will be allowed to be plugged into the grid. This will be enforced via smart meters.
The load on the electric grid will be massive so their will be restrictions on usage.
Once the battery/capacitor gets near its endlife it will trigger some kind of service light that you will have to pay and approved dealer to reset and change your battery to new one...
The corporates will be in control, travel and energy will never be 'cheap'....

you paint a purdy pichure. All good points, but as these sorts of things don't happen overnight, so surely there's a plan to upgrade and supplement (where possible) the grid? 'specially now we've just gotten some money for 'em.

Planned or consumer driven? How many cars get the simple upkeep to keep em running for 30 years and 300,000km? How many of yours have? when things are this cheap it is no wonder so many resources are wasted.

Which lightbulbs never burn out? My cars 45 years old - still going strong. Its up to you how long your car/bike lasts. A lot of people do engine swaps or resto-mod their cars. Some are even fitting them with electric motors and batteries.
You must live in a strange paranoid world - you seem to think every everyday event and company has some conspiracy attached to it. Out of curiosity what do you do for a living?

And he had Ni-Cads from the 60's.

As for the swapping of the batteries. Tesla are working on a "7 year swap" where you can just swap the batteries out for a % of what the car is worth every 7 years. If value drops - so does the cost of a swap out. Interestingly enough - there first prototypes are still good, 9 years on.
