To me its just the right thing to do when expert help isn't right there.
There was a good MTB crash vid doing the rounds recently, fella crashed and tore femoral artery with handlebar or brake lever.
Lucky his mate got straight in there and applied pressure otherwise he would have been dead in 2mins.
Was all on GoPro and didn't look that bad at first too.

    Final Outcome

    Court hearing finally happened today.

Outcome - found proven, fined $300 plus court costs.

His defence was that he was riding in the cycle lane to avoid a hazard.

    Tripe.

I really encourage people to defend tickets if they are spurious. But if they are legitimate, just pay the fine. Cheaper, certainly on this occasion.

He obviously wanted his day in Court because he thought he was right. Bad luck his stand will cost him in the pocket.
Off for a celebratory donut Rastus?

Mrs Cat had a knee replacement this week. I'm off work for a few weeks starting today to look after her while she convalesces.

I actually felt bad about the nasty fine. I wish there was sanction that doesn't involve the Treasury benefiting.

One of the hazards when DRing in London was people pushing prams out first from between stationary(and not so stationary) cars

    Dead easy.

    1. Take perp to bank.
    2. Withdraw cash.
    3. Burn cash.

A better idea would be to take him to a charity e.g. Plunket and have the dish donated.

The moral of this story ties in with my previous advice about dealing with cops.....don't speak to them. Amazing how many people talk themselves into a (bigger) ticket.

Get a big bottle of lube, remove the contents however you wish.
    Fill with hand sanitizer.
Next time a perp asks if you are sure they need a ticket clean your hands.
If they were particularly naughty up to the elbow.

    Big bottle of lube. $10
    Big bottle of sanitizer $10
The look on their face... priceless.

I don't like that idea. The whole point is that no-one benifits financially. That way all talk of revenue gathering is quashed. If it goes to charity there's still the possibility of nepitism.

Yes, agreed. Annette King talked up taking the dosh out of the system when she was minister of police. There's no political will for it.

Indeed. Could also means that maybe there is something to the revenue gathering argument. At least for some.

As a matter of intrerest? If he had been found innocent would the Police have been charged costs??

I know of a rather large and costly case the police brought up and it was thrown out but still cost the defendant a very large lawyers bill!!

No, my understanding is you are SOL. Had to sell you rhouse because you can't get leagal aid if you own any assets? Cash in the retirement fund? To bad.
THis is used to stop people contesting bad decisions, since as a taxpayer, you are paying for both sides...
e.g - a cases where a person was charged with killing a burgalr but case dismissed as self defence - the legal bill was over $30k. Think of it as a a $30k fine guilty or not...
