He's already having to kiss chinese arse economically, and he doesn't realise how badly that can backfire.

The rebuild of the Russian military has taken a serious hit.
Correct. Worse still, Russia has to keep producing as the majority of their wells will simply freeze if they shut them down.

Putin is anything but smart. Putin is a fairly short sighted tactician, definitely not a strategist at all. That sort of comes naturally with being a fairly low level KGB spook. I wonder what the people that backed his rise (Ivanov and others) think of what he is doing right now. I also wonder how many of the pople around him want to see him gone, because he is bad for business.

He started something without having the faintest idea of what the endgame would look like and now he is riding a tiger and can't get off.

The West will simply do what the West has done once before. They will outlast Russia economically. With a bit of luck Russia will disintegrate properly this time. I have no desire to see the legacy state of Stalin, Yezhov, Dzerzhinsky, Molotov et al. last any longer than it has already.

Yup, that's the killer. They can't suspend production. They have to keep producing at a loss, or lose most of their production capacity. Also worth noting - If they do lose this capacity, they can't rebuild it, as those wells were drilled and exploited using western technology, which they no longer have access to (embargo).

You really think Putin wants the USSR back? - More like the West (USA/Zionist Israel) that wants the USSR back and Putin (Eastern orthodox Christianity) out!

These guys go back a long time and have different objectives to what they show on the surface - USA NATO etc are simply pawns in their game! (Obama? Pffft)

The Muslim Sheik that Brian d marge posted had it all worked out proper IMHO! ... You don't have to shout, I am prepared to be proved wrong!

Dunno, who said that Putin wants the USSR back? All I said is that I maintain that Russia is an unreformed successor state to the USSR. Picture a West Germany that glorifies and pines for the good old days of the Third Reich, denies or glosses over the atrocities and is led by a fomer Abwehr or Gestapo agent...you get the gist of the analogy.

As for the Orthodox Church. Meh. Just another power hungry backwards institution that would ally itself with the devil (I'd argue it already has) in order to gain more power/influence. No saving graces with them, just as with the Catholics and any other church.

Hey, riddle me this, please: Assuming the world jewry is somehow out to get Russia, how does this tally with Putin, Medvedev, Ivanov and others being Jewish themselves? And yes, they are.
Does this mean that there are factions of Jews fighting among themselves, or is this part of a larger conspiracy that we do not fully understand?
    Not trolling, btw, serious question.

Jewish by descent, not by a stated affiliation to a religion. Saint Paul was also Jewish, if you get my drift.

Well there are many factions of Zionism not all of them agree or have the same agenda and yes they fight amongst themselves just like any family!

    For instance: http://www.jewishjournal.com/dennis_...o_hurting_jews

Look at Israel there is a lot of conflict within about what they are doing to the Arabs in Gaza but it never features in our news papers etc.

I have always thought that Jews as a people are extremely interesting because of their small % of world population yet for every conflict or activity they are prominent!

Anti Semitic champions make it very difficult to even mention or draw attention to them mention the word Jew and hear the gasps for miles!
