I did with Steve over on the Norf Shore. Just because you are badly trained does not mean others have to be.

Oh Jesus! So much. Just don't ever think you know it all and ride like everyone on the road is out to kill you because given half a chance that's what they'll do.

Personally I reckon it takes 18 months to get to a point where you just might make it as a biker. Take it slow and buy the best gear you can afford.

Believe it or not, it gets better once you get on a proper bike and out of New Lynn.

If the police put their lights & siren on it might be best to just stop, at least until you progress a little

I've never actually had any rider training. Just 7 years of motorbike racing before my first road bike, and 4 years of driving cars experience. Haven't done to badly. If I didn't have the racing experience, I know I would have survived alot easier with training.

I rode my mates bike in cul de sac couple of times before going to the local Yamaha dealer and test riding an RG250 and FZR250 BEFORE I even got my learner licence.
Nope, I learned in the 'good ole days', when you handed over your money to a dealer, or another slightly older, spotty kid, tied ya
looney plates to it, and rode the fucker home.

Yeah, get some training, riding a motorcycle is not easy like driving a truck is. They let any muppet drive those things.

Not me. My first bike was an XL125. On my way home from buying it I had to stop at a traffic light on Remuera rd. When it went green I managed to dump the clutch and wheeled it high enough to scrape the number plate and my knees.

It seems as if I downshift to slow down rather than using my brakes. Not intentionally doing it.

Am I doing it wrong lol?
I just stop & do my best to refrain from having conversations with people that ain't in my lane

Depends on the circumstances. There is a time to downshift, a time to brake, a time to downshift and brake and a time to downshift and then brake. You will figure it out as the kilometres grow.

Stopping power should be mostly from the front brakes. Downshifting should be mostly to keep you ready in the correct rev range to accelerate again.
Assuming your not on gravel or grass.
