would it not be a whole lot simpler to just get the bit of plastic? sounds like you are stressing about this and really want to go on the trip. Am thinking the average Mr Plod would be a whole lot more likely to give you a bollocking and leave it at that if you had a 6L at least and preferably a 6R.
