    DR650 resale values

I amazes mes the resale value of DR650's
These Bikes are $8900 new, so heres me thinking I will get one say 3 years old (30,000Km) for $4-5K, not likely, everyone wants about $6-7 K.
    thats only 2-3k loss.
Thats amazing, if you buy a $25K bike you are likely to get $15k for same age & Kms.
These 650's must have the best resale of any bike I know.

The "Buy NEW" price is an illusion, add in even basic NEEDED extras and Farkles and it soon adds up. Unless your a farmer just needing another chook chaser you'll easily drop another grand on stuff...

Advertised for sale prices are never a real indicator of what they actually sell for in the end either...

the irony of it.....optimistic asking prices derived from optimistic asking prices Supply and demand determines value not what you've spent on it.... 49 DRs on TM at the moment

...not to mention that they frequently get specialled off brand new at $8K

One thing to remember with DR650's is that there have been zero changes or upgrades apart from colour to the model since sometime in the late Jurassic period so year means nothing - mileage & condition is everything.

I make it 9. If you restrict your search to bikes between 500 and 750cc and that are Suzuki's and used bikes you get 10 results. 9 of these are DRs. You can't count dealers selling new bikes.

Take your point but respectfully disagree. Any DR forsale in the same market is competition in that market and is a driver that markets value....Clint's post is right on the...err...money.

Posted values are not market values - new or 2nd hand isn't as relevant in DR land. Valuation principles assume a willing buyer and seller will have looked at all reasonable (obvious) compareables (i.e. private and retail sales). Apologies for the valuation lesson I'm bit bored today.

But you can get a NEW one from any Suzuki dealer for $8999 ( or there about ) plus the 9 others that are on TM right now. That gives you 10 options.

Also he is counting everything that comes up when you just search "dr650" and there are scooters and all sorts of other bikes included.

I'll give ya that one but my point still holds good. Each of those retailers is a deal to be had - hence they have to be included in the math. Some may not negotiate but that's irrelevant to the discussion....but if we cant agree on that lets agree that although men cant have babies, they should have the right too

....and don't discount those crazy scooters too quickly, their 3rd gears are totally reliable

    .
    That's wot I thought too!!
Had to settle for 5.4k for my '11 with 30K km with a few 'irreversible' farkles fitted.
I only wanted about 7.5k with everything a DR ever needed.....just got ridiculed.

Maybe they haven't recently, but there were definitely a few years where they had them at $8K ish during the Suzuki summer specials promotion. I bet some of those dealers that still have a 2013 on the floor would be open to a bit of negotiation. To Suzuki's credit, although the technology on a DR hasn't changed for the last 10 years, neither has the base price.

    Cheers
