I am listening to fuck all atm.

Partly 'cause I can't hear anything. And partly 'cause I got nothing to listen to.

So, I want a music maker for the workshop. One that a deaf bastard has some show of hearing. Would be good if it would make like a radio thing, and possibly a CD thing, but more likely a more modern media that I don't know anything about thing.

So far I have a pair of 90W speakers left over from a dead home system decades old. Good quality I think.

So what do I buy to make the rest work? For maybe a few hundred bucks? That's going to work for the next decade or so?

What you want it to do??? if it's just play CD & radio, maybee MP3 player then almost any Panasonic or Sony audio system in the 150$ region should do.

Yeah pretty much. But I'd like to use those speakers, and I don't know if those wee portable units have the horsepower to drive them, do they?

Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough...

My bad forgot about the power part... most those are round 20W RMS
But also don't forget speakers do degrade over time regardless of how good they once were, & woofers/subwoofers more than most.

...I've been marooned inside by the fire for a couple or three days, 'cos ...I can...had a search for Reading Rock '83 and found a few clips...these guys were there, a real Scottish sound in the mix...check out the lineup of bands that were there...I got very wasted the minute I got there on the Friday evening...I was in a Transit Van with an English mate...he took a dozen cans of Carlsberg Special, I took about 10 cases of various beers and shit...a very rugged weekend...I helped a bunch of wasted Irish blokes put their shelter up and they gave me a 1/4 oz of 'black' stuff...Im only starting to remember some of the stuff now...It was Thin Lizzie's last show in Britain before Phil left the scene forever...

Aye, very good, includes access to synology 4tb discstation... but I don't have any music there. I don't have any music I can put there.

Which isn't to say I can't get some, but what format?

Alternatively, I found this: http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/tv-and...-receiver.html the other day. No wifi I don't think, but it seems a good price for what it is...

Ah well, wouldn't be the first time I've bought something to suit existing shit and then had to replace the existing shit.

I haven't had a good music system for fucking years, a new workshop might be a poor excuse to splash out but it's the only excuse I got.

...back in the day when things were heavy and huge, I was quite the whizz with setting shit up...it seemed so easy...luckily I bred a son who has forgotten more than I have ever known about 'sound' and he lives at home...I have no idea how anything works around here now and am frowned upon by my son who can't understand how I can't grasp such simple modern technology...anyway I have a sound system in the shed that he knocked up which is frightening and dangerous, it has an older CD and Tape deck in the system...I could fuck off the whole town if I wanted but I'm getting too old for that kind of volume myself...
