Go past the spot every day and to reduce a lamp pole (not the small one but the one behind the popo) to half its normal width and bend it this was clearly well in excess of 100. The surface is smooth and was a nice day when it happened. Its also the crossing between the school and the railway station.

Creating risk is taking a risk but I guess most have a near miss just this wasn't a miss.

    Tough crowd.

    He's dead.

Why piss on his grave? He doesn't care, or notice.

You feel better for it? Tragic all round.

If it was a boy racer who wrapped his car around a pole would there be a "taken too soon" thread?

The only difference is that it was a biker. Does the fabled "biker brotherhood" make things different? I'm curious.

Well why don't you go and see what sort of damage you can do to one of those posts at semi sane speeds? Preferably with your head you fucking muppet.

I have not been on here much in the last couple or so years. Last I remember of you, you were a decent and intelligent chap, has that changed? I have no problem with you having a different opinion to me but that does not justify personal attacks.

I have not seen the pole after the crash, nor did I see the crash or the rider on his bike before the crash. Therefore if I had an opinion re what happened it would only be guesswork and a judgement of the now dead rider withouth knowing the facts. I am sure many on here are in same situation. He might have had a medical condition, the bike might have malfunctioned, there might have been another vehicle involved, the options are almost endless. There is also a big chance that he over-estimated his riding skills and crashed, as a result, and killed him self. But my point is that we do not know. Therefore to call him names and blanket him with blame is unfair as he cannot be here to reply.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

    EXCEPT:
eye witnesses have not commented on any other vehicle being involved, and commented he was goig 'really fast'.
the Popo have expert crash investigators, and to already release a statement of 'excessive speed likely involved' is not something they would say 'lightly'
also, look at the pictures, the amount of collapse od diameter, and bend in the pole. Physics of leverage, to bend it from so low an impact point? Would require a pretty reasonable amount of force, and it doesnt appear to be a 'glancing blow' does it?
then look at the distance away from the pole the bike finally came to rest?

I think you'd be hard pushed to find any other explanation than 'speed'.

To be fair "eyewitnesses" always seem to say bikes are fast.

Mate of mine almost T boned someone at 40kph. He pulled along side and said "didn't you look?" She went "look at your bike, you must have been speeding"

    400cc KTM

Quite probably his fault for sure but no way our right to decide that yet.

I don't think that you even grasp the basics of logic and reasoning, let alone proof. For a start you can't prove a negative.
MotoGP is proof that you can have fast and safe.
This incident is proof that you can have fast and unsafe.

Your logic is like watching someone trip over their own feet and declaring that to be proof that it isn't possible for people to walk without tripping over their own feet.

If that's the case (and you don't know that) then he's an idiot. I've ridden fast'n'safe plenty times and come home safely.
