I'm pretty sure its a requirement from the owner's of the track......try arguing the 'rules' with them.

Just out of curiosity.... not being a cunt....

How many people know how to use a fire extinguisher properly??
How many people have had training in using one?

What happens if someone gets hurt/burnt using one? What are the liabilities for track owners (if it is indeed them asking for us to carry them), or even what happens to MNZ as it is in their rulebook.

What happens if a person simply refuses to use it on the above grounds of lack of training, and a shed burns down anyway? Are they at fault???

Like I said, not stirring, just asking......

Some interesting questions. The answer to the first two is probably "not many". Fire fighting training was conducted at the local airport where there was a modest but purpose built facility. Because of the Clean Air Act, or some similar beaurocratic embuggerance, that facility has not been available for years.

The last building I worked in had hoses and extinguishers but the policy was to ignore those and just get everybody out as quick as possible.

If it's true that very few people are trained, the answers to your remaining questions could prove interesting. Whatever happened OSH would say it was wrong, because they are blessed with 20/20 hindsight.

Depends on the bike and track, possibly more fun here...

I'd suspect that most public sites who have to carry Public Liability Insurance will be required to have fire fighting gear of their own on site. Participants bringing their own is just icing for them...

To answer your first questions, in the words of Scribe, Not many, if any....if someone gets hurt, this is NZ with it's magnificent no fault ACC...refusal to use it ? Whoever carries the Public Liability Insurance for the venue may well have some questions....

    Hmmmm...

I have to provide an extinguisher here at both my businesses due to the landlord insurance policy.
It does not however state that I must/have to use it.
I have told my staff that if there is a fire, to vacate the premises (with any customers) as soon as possible.
I have also stated to them - that if they are to use an extinguisher, they will be terminated.

Reason being?? They do not have training, and my products are highly toxic when alight.
I'd rather have a burnt down building than a dead employee..... the ramifications are totally different!!!

The most amazing bit of that post is the fact you know who Scribe is.

is that because he was the only black man in the south Island?

    Define suitable.........................
Can I use a wet chemical or foam extinguisher on a tyre warmer fire??

Hey, I'm old, not dead....he may have been the only literate maori down here....hard to round up a representative sample without it involving something illegal.

I read the rulebook as being 'suitable and 1kg'.
I've got a jug of water. Should suffice.

    Or have I missed something??

Ahh fuck it... I'll protest it anyway.....
