I Just passed my final stage for my motorbike licence and what a huge relief and satisfaction it is. I was a bit surprised because the whole test was conducted in 50km zones, I was expecting to do mostly open road riding but not to be. Anyway just glad to be free with no more conditions.

I live in a rural town, haven't even got a single traffic light. My commute to work is mostly 100km zones, 24km return. Plus come the weekends the only 50km zones are the towns I'm passing through. If I lived in the city Id look at something more appropriate if the purpose was to commute. Not quite sure the reason why you mentioned 50km zones for. Haha, I was only just having a laugh at the licensing test you described, and other peoples posts. There's no fucking way anyone with a fully-functional brain would give someone a license to operate a motor vehicle at 100km on New Zealand's open roads without fullly testing someone, but you've indicated otherwise outside of International Drivers license conversions.

I'm not any different to you. I also live in the country, and not even in a town, fully rural on a life-style property, the road is barely tar-sealed past my driveway up the road.
My commute is 100km each way, Mostly 100km speed zones. I'm still riding a 300cc. Perfect for the open road, and also the inner city of Auckland. Have been on a full motorcycle licence for a while now, just waiting to pay some more of the (tiny) house mortgage off, and to also convince the wife that having two bikes is cool. I'm halfway there I think... I'm just anal with money
Have fun test-riding your new bike, make sure whatever bike you end up choosing matches your riding style, and enjoy!

Nah I don't think it is sarcasm. It makes sense. I guess its up to the discretion of the assessor weather its on the open road or not. At the end of the day all the competencies were met to ride safely on NZ roads.
