Thanks for the update.
Best wishes to Shaun for a quick and full recovery.
Hopefully they dont base his release from ABI on a full recovery based on normal criteria.
Anyone that wants to fall of their bike and cushion the fall with their head will never be normal . Just saying.
Heal quick mate .
Holly hell - how did I miss this? ..... there is one good thing.... at least I got the full 2 month story in a few minutes.
Get better quick Shaun.... I don't want you to be my first Linkedin connection to be ended on this kind of a note!![]()
Best wishes from American Siberia.![]()
has anyone got an update on Shaun's progress?
Had a yarn with one of the medics that worked on Sean at Levels in the weekend while I was being bandaged up, thanked her for keeping him with us.
The forum is not the same with out him.
I have been catching up with Shaun Harris regularly since he was relocated to the ABI unit in Porirua and can say that I've seen a number of improvements in the last few visits. He's now talking, something I think some of us secretly feared cause of his "colourful" language but it’s all good we’ve had is a good chat several times. When he had his crash the biggest worry that came back to the pits was that one of his pupils (eye thingamys) was much larger than the other, he was out to it then; but that was the clearest sign of a major brain injury. His pupils (eye thingamys for you lot with a short attention span) are now relatively the same size, I say relatively, as i've seen a huge change but not going to say they are the same folks, i’m not qualified to make that call. Last Week he had his Tracheostomy removed, that's the thingamy he had in his neck for breathing through, and coughing out surplus furballs etc that his throat couldn't do, cause his swede (head, noggin, dome, brain etc) wasn't sending the signals. The Swede is now got that part of him to work now so that means he'll be able to get back into Karaoke, and be able to eat food, instead of about seven "meals" a day he was getting through a syringe into his stomach. Dunno what they tasted like but to me it looked like Lion Brown with soggy weetbix through a blender..... Some days he know who I am, some days he doesn’t. It’s still tough to go and see a mate like this, but tougher not to and let him tick over the days with maybe no-one dropping in and I always look forward to that moment when we can have a normal conversation (yip as normal as you’d expect between Spyda and Shaun) about just a small thing. Eventually these convos will grow, he’s on his way back but still got a long way to go. Don’t forget folks, he’s there for a visit, don’t stay long, if you can spark a memory that’s great, if you can’t it’s still great that you have taken the time and made the effort. The only thing to watch is if you have soemthing niggling you, cough cold etc, best stay away as it is a hospital enviroment and they don’t need more bugs.
Spyda
Thanks Spyda![]()

Good on you Jelly, good to have mates like you.
Only a Rat can win a Rat Race!

Thanks for the update Spyda.
Thanks for the updates Spyda. Huge respect to you for taking the time to visit Shaun, help him and write the updates. Very few of us would, citing the excuse of our busy ( read selfish) lives etc.
One of my own deepest regrets is a friend who a sustained a head injury after an innocuous 'off' while we riding together many years ago (cough .. like 40 !!) ... like Shaun, he was in the brain damage unit for a long time.
I was very young and obsessed with my own life and after a while it was easier to not go anymore .... I have lived with that shame since.
What you are doing is not easy or pleasant.
Respect.
You guys realise that Spyda only goes there to try and score free drugs right??!!
