Nope, modern car, switches operate on a circuit board with chips and shit on it, no fucking idea what's working and what isn't, so still broken.

Seriously disturbs me the number of cars these days that are written off not because there is something mechanically wrong with them, but because the electronics has stopped working and it's either too expensive or nobody has enough clues to fix it.

    Fucking technology.
We have 3 90's cars. They all have different central locking / electric window issues. Despite numerous attempts by different auto sparkys the problems remain. K'in annoying in otherwise sound vehicles.

I only feel pity for people with old cars.
Minimum of abs, airbags & buttons on the steering wheel to control shit that nobody really needs or its archaic.
VJ pacer was cool in it's day, and is cooler now. Bit if I had your X5 and a VJ in the garage, I'd prolly rack up a shit load more k's in the soccer mum car.

Every era has it's new-tech challenges. I had two late 80's Hiaces with the snakes nest vacuum driven emission control system. The easiest way for me to fix it was to replace the lot with a dcoe weber.

That's why it's a good idea to avoid anything involving "new" technology. It's never new in the sense that the industry invented it, but kaizen, by definition has to start somewhere, and it requires faults to function...

And if you think that only applies to Japanese products I can assure you that any manufacturer that hasn't adopted Japanese development and production methodologies has long since ceased to exist.

Pertronix points repacement kit is your answer. No black box, plug and play. Never need to touch them again.
Main market is for performance cars where regs say you can't change the ignition type, pretty sure there's a kit for the A series.

All the doors or just one? The likes of BA Falcons have a lot of central lock gremlins,in most cases its not electrical.

I have tipped that to be the case. Our local club has an eight game tipping board each week for $4. Other theam picks this weekend are Dragons/Steel/Raiders and Rebels.

Ya reckon mind you its all personal preference i guess,XY Coons for me had a lovely XYGS which with no foresight i sold just like the XR/XT/XW before it,be worth a good quid these days.Mates got a pretty cool Valiant Coupe but doesnt really float my boat compared to the likes of an XA.Ive a BA GTP which goes/stops/handles etc etc a lot better than any of the many older coons i had but at times feel like flicking it and buying another old one problem is once you start messing with the old stuff it just never ends,on that a bloke a few weeks ago wanted to swap + cash a mint XA ute for my GTP...considered it briefly but XA though mint still had oem 4.1 which would need to go etc etc, cant be bothered with it all that and the Mrs gave me the "death" stare everytime i mentioned it.

No lock motor on drivers door, others when you locked the car unlocked again straight away.

Dismantle door, clean switch on drivers door lock mechanism, replace door handle with one where the lock mechanism isn't wonky, replace electronicy switch module with one that works and as a bonus the drivers window works as well now.

I guess it's now a $1050 car, plus the cost of gas for 2 trips to pick-a-part.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987
