Dennis Charlett now owns Budget and you'll find few people anywhere with the amount of motorcycle preparation knowledge with at least four different new zealand superbike hcampionship classes under his belt so far, you don't win those with poor workmanship and i can assure you he would keep a good eye in the workshop that his staff are getting it right.

Trevor sold up a few years back. A bloke called Bill bought it and was running it. He sold to Dennis I'm told, and I have no doubt he'll do a great job.

The comment about budget motorcycles may be a bit out of date, talking to someone at work yesterday it seems a different mechanic has set up next door who is very sharp, can't remember the name though.

The invoice dates were 30th july for the crap job....unfortunately there wasn't any recourse as I didn't get to see the bike until Nov, the owner had no idea until things were pointed out; then was shown the job invoices....weren't worth the paper they were written on.
The best incident was kber MyGSXF in 07....went and got a new rear tyre fitted while she waited, paid the bill took of & rode from Wilsons rd out to Isllington wondering why her bike felt odd & was handling different.....rear axle hadn't been tightened and the wheel was slopping around in the swingarm....piss poor on the shops behalf and laughable as she was in the throws of becoming a riding instructor

Wouldn't recommend Budget after what I've recently had to undertake for friend.
They got Budget to do a service & repair on their bike and being a rather new to bikes didn't really understand what was done....the service was meant to be oil/filter/tappets/check & adjust chain,cables etc
Oil was 500ml below spec, filter housing weeping, exhaust valves outside spec gaps, chain loose, & throttle & clutch cables sloppy.
The repair was meant to be a refurb of starter motor (ie: new brush plate) they replaced reg/rec and never touched the starter motor.
$700+ bill for absolute crap....they just ripped off newbie and looking at the invoice they're/the so-called mechanic is a total bullshit artist

Just heard tell of an engine rebuild done there on a motard where the cams were 2 teeth out and there was a screw jammed in the waterpump impeller... Not sure how much work the Budget guy was responsible for but not good considering the dollars spent trying to get his bike working.

I think whether you have a motorbike, car or cycle you need to have a torque wrench to check wheels and handlebars etc have been tightened to the specific torque as I have heard of nuts not being torqued up by both car and cycle dealers as well. I got caught myself once when wanting to get a warrant in a hurry before the testing station closed, only tightening the wheel nuts by hand and finding the wheel coming lose but only after I had done about 100kms. Normally I would never tighten without a torque wrench but I just got caught out this one time.

Good point, I'm always advocating use of torque wrenches. Another issue can be over tightening, especially, but not limited to: triple clamp bolts, drain plug and engine case screws!!
