If I wanted, I could take the ferry to work and my commute would consist of watching Dolphins frolic in the Seas.

Granted, I've not been to every single metropolised area in the world - but for me - Auckland isn't too bad.
You should visit LA. Not what you're assuming at all.
Still my all time favourite destination to date.

LA is like a (very) big Auckland.

Not my expierence at all. I only go to Auckland when I need to. Rainbows End VS Disneyland, Huntington Beach VS Takapuna beach, Shortland St VS Hollywood Boulevard. and the food choices! etc etc.

    I loved Disneyland...well I was 6 at the time.

The one outside Paris is good too.

Shucks...I never knew Shortland St was where you non Aucklanders visited.

To be fair - I did visit LA many years ago - and the Touristy side of things was great - but I also remember the Freeways being rather depressing.

That said, I do want to go back.

South of LA PCH is a great ride or drive.

    Not quite...

The road down Oregon's coast is better than the PCH, not that the PCH isn't certainly one of the great drives/rides...

Taupo has one set of traffic lights and lake with snow capped mountain views from virtually every angle.

You can keep your Auckland 'ambience'.
