IBM Selectric typewriters at the US Embassy in Wellington in the mid 80s (I serviced the typewriters as Thorndon was in my territory) had extra heavy flywheels on the motors as it was discovered that selection of each character put a different load on the motor, resulting in a variation of the hash/noise put on the power line. In theory this could be captured and decoded. The flywheel served to smooth out the motor under varying load. Would also have required the bad guys to have access to the power line the typewriter was plugged into but paranoia knows no bounds.

That sounds awfully similar to a bug that the British discovered in one of their encryption devices that was based off of the Enigma machine, they knew about it, but declined to tell anyone about, sold the machines to their allies knowing that they would be able to decrypt their messages if needed.

Buggered if I can remember any more details about it, but it rings a rather large bell.

So reading the listener article over breakfast, prolly a month old, but a survey of the ICU organisations about the country - we have 3.6 ICU beds actually deployable with staff and machines per 100,000 peeps. Just 1 space ahead of Mexico. It has 1/2'd since 2001 through successive governments. So any politician standing and pointing the finger the other way should have it broken off.

The way I'm seeing things it's a numbers game. There is definitely a chance of copping an adverse reaction to the vaccination but the odds are far lower for that than suffering a serious result if the virus comes on board. Collateral damage is one way of looking at this unfortunately.

The vaccine isn't totally protective but it significantly reduces your chances of contracting the virus and reduces the severity of symptoms if you do end up with a 'breakthrough' infection. Again a way to sway the statistics in your favour.

The governments (internationally) are shit scared of what this virus is capable of doing including to existing health systems and to their populations so they're cranking out the pro-vax propaganda because that's the only tool they have in their toolbox currently and they would be vilified if they failed to at least try to mitigate the fatality rate that's coming. Admitting to the vaccine injuries would be counterproductive in what is already a difficult sell to some sectors of the population with many of those being Maori and if fatalities are significantly higher in that group the government will be blamed on racial terms. A bit of a no win situation in that respect.

We're in for a rough time for the next year at least so batten down the hatches and we do whatever we can to be a survivor at the other end. I'm just glad we're in NZ and not in some of the more densely populated regions particularly in the Northern Hemisphere.

In regard to my approach in accepting my double vaccination I took measures to mitigate the risks, as I see things.

1. Microdose with aspirin prior to and for a week after vaccinations to minimise clotting potential.
2. Insist that the practitioner aspirates (draws back) the syringe prior to injecting the vaccine in to confirm that it is going into muscle tissue and not IV.
3. Drink plenty of water in the days following vaccination to maximise elimination of bodily byproducts resulting from the immune system stimulation that occurs.
