I've been watching 'Joe and Nic's Road Trip' on YouTube. Descriptions like bleak and post apocalyptic are appropriate. I had read that poverty in the US was way worse than could be found in Britain. I'll believe it after watching this. Whole areas with dilapidated abandoned houses. In other towns the abandoned housing has been bulldozed, and the area taken over by weeds. The official euphemism is "urban prairie". In some towns the Main Street looks clean but off Main Street weeds have taken over the footpaths. Crime of course is through the roof.

Whole areas of cities have nothing but abandoned buildings. It's sad because there is some lovely architecture but there's no coming back from that far gone. Nobody can afford to renovate, the city can't afford demolition. It's not just the south, or the inner cities, it happens widely it seems. The show is just a guy talking as he drives around with his camera. He does give statistics but even so it can be a bit slow and I'll admit to jumping ahead if it lacks interest.

We can safely assume that Joe and Nic's Road Trip is not endorsed by the various state tourist departments. These areas don't make it into the movies, the only place you'll see it really is here.

I watch it small doses, too much could be depressing, but it's a whole nutha world.
There’s another good one like that a guy revisits Chicago/Detroit suburban areas and shows before and after. He rarely ever brings his car to a complete stop for obvious reasons…
That’s all coming here one day if the commies keep dismantling our society… all it takes is a bit of unemployment with a dash of no freedom of movement/unaffordable travel….

Workshop Wednesdays at the Australian Armour and Artillery museum, I visited this museum in February, fucking great place, they had a Jagdpanther, Panther and Tiger 1 lined up together and another 100+ vehicles and Artillery pieces, the Tiger will become a runner at some stage, the Panther already is, there's a shooting range in the basement so I had to have a go with the Lee Enfield, Mosin Nagant and Carcano

Lately they've been working on a Grant and have found a stash of them in Melbourne

Some good rainy day viewing here. Excellent movie and a good reminder of how crucial even logistical elements are in war and the value of everyone in the team.

    Cool Extraction II

Woopee Extraction II is out on Netflix. Loved the first one and this is, you guessed it, a repeat, but I'm not complaining. Same formula, same actors, same kick-arse action sequences, same fun to watch! Chris Hemsworth was born to play these roles, like Matt Damon and his Bourne movies. They did find some comically evil, scary looking bad guys though.

For SciFi fans, "Foundation" - bases on Isaac Ansimov books, easy to see where Dune and Star Wars got ideas from

Might as well read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, that's a trilogy in 4 parts.

I'm re-reading this with my Daughter and am re-watching the old BBC TV Series.

    Excellent book.
