His optimism knows no bounds. To be worth restoring from that condition a bike would need to be exceptional. Say f'rinstance a Brough Superior formerly owned by T E Lawrence. A Honda? Nah.

I don't usually delve other listings but he's also selling some other honda engines, what looks like a CB450 and maybe CB77. Probably stored in the same lake.

Estate sale. Wonder if these were unearthed when the police dredged the farm waterways looking for the murder weapon?

Why do people think they can get 12k for an RD400 with shit pipes on it?

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/m...ing/4965552396

This looks like quite a nice bike but someone has baulked at the cost of importing some unobtanium original pipes or as 2nd best some period Higgspeed etc chambers in chrome.
Instead bodge on some cigar RZ pipes perhaps with some cruddy interface welding and certainly not a performance match.

Seat strip will be hard to find.

Look, I understand these parts would set you back 2-4 grand maybe more. But understand that it devalues the bike by that or even more.
Problem is there's another clown with one asking the same. (With no bites as it is still several grand over odds even with pipes).
Oh lordy both Nelson lakes. . .

Hmm seems to have dropped price or i mis read. But thick end of 11k is still cuckoo

I don't think it is that unrealistic anymore, maybe a little on the high side but not much, I bought 2 RD400 for $750, one a runner, sold them for about the same to a guy I knew but that was some time ago

I said to a guy a while ago who was moaning about the price of something that back when he was younger was a few hundred dollars, those times are long gone, the cheapest time to buy is normally now, they'll only go up

If it had the most expensive and hardest to source bits.
I appreciate that an RD is skyrocketing. Trust me I was chasing one for quite a while. There was a mint original that didn't make $6k but was (eventually) withdrawn (sold out of TM I guess) post covid. So 5 years ago a mint one could just about make 6k.
It would have to double in 5 years and get those so important for the right look pipes.

But we are getting to peak RD value I'd offer. Peak RZ is around the corner and Aprilia RS250s will climb for maybe another 10 years maybe.
Buyers of an age will be downsizing after that and the new crowd coverting K5 zooks (which suzuki will still be producing engines based off that platform in 2030 assuming petrol is still selling.

Wow! It's got everything. The king and queen seat, those bars, the tool roll in silly place, gold springs, highway pegs. The list just goes on and on.
It would be hard to make a funnier bike. Gumby mixed with Gee I'm cool Eh?

Have these really reached this much?
    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/m...ing/4962498472

I mean a nice enough bike and well restored probably.
But there's a Katana for that and a 916 for less.
Hmm comments show there's debate already.

Lot of money asking for a bike, while nicely resored, was only a gap filler for Suzuki.

I could think of better bikes for the money too mate.
