get a 250 2smoker!! All the power you want (even with a fly wheel weight), cheap to maintain, suspension can be tuned for any riding.

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
Yep, it may be ugly and boring but our man Welly here would get himself around Riverhead on a winter trail ride on a KDX200 reasonably easily while struggling on the GasGas; and that is no slur on his riding ability as it would most likely be the same for me and probably most of us at KR.
I get to ride everything pretty much and I know that I'd be quicker everywhere on a 250 four stroke or KDX200 than I would be on a large capacity Husaberg (I'm drooling as I write that word), you just have to be honest with yourself. That said, the bike sitting in my shed at the moment is a WR450...
The KDX is a tried and proven bike that has won more than its fair share of races, as for the forks they are a little soft as standard but with a re valve and the right springs they can be mighty, the over hang can be a little bit of a problem some times but its not that bad.
People get caught up in this whole power thing, but in the trees power is over rated!
I agree, but I feel a buzz riding my CR, I felt bored test ridng a KDX.
Yeah it had all the goodies. Don't get me wrong, they are a great bike. I just prefer my CR.
I have a CR and agree with cheese!
And I agree with what you say above dammad1 as well!!
I reckon any bike you buy new or second hand you need to get the suspension done for your weight and riding style.
I have added a fly wheel weight, done some tuning to smooth power delivery.
Got Danger to do a front end revalve and got the correct spring for my weight from the USA for the rear. Thats about $500-00 (on the suspension) very well spent dollars. The bloody thing is a completly different bike. 100% better for me, than Standard.
Now I'm learning about rider sag settings for cross country Vs the big jumps at Kimis or MX at Ardmore. Believe me, 5mm in rider sag and a few clicks here and there also make a big difference. This will seem elementary to a regular racer but it's great fun.
Do it, play with it, learn it.
Suspension is everything!!!
