What we clearly need is an improvement in the reporting of unreported crime. It's that figure that's causing the headaches and now the Govt has a handle on it they should simply declare what that number is, let us get an absolute measure on the crime and we can take it from there.

If Mizz King is able to confirm the level of crime reporting has increased... it implies they know how much by, and they therefore know the unknowable.

Which just proves why Labour keep getting into power - they're magic! Helen's speeding problems go away, they know the unknowable, art forgeries aren't an issue... it's just nirvana!

I love New Zealand. Now if only my taxes weren't so high, the PC bullshit was done away with, crime was lower, we had more police, less spent on crims and dole bludgers, the foreshore belonged to everyone, and I wasn't held accountable for the alleged sins of my forefathers. I think it'd be ideal.

The Waikato Slimes is in REAL TROUBLE (tm) - they're blaming the rise in crime figures on "drunken youths" - FFS! Haven't they read the official Party Line?!

Hamiltons in for real trouble judging by the number of blue bandana wearing youth I spotted, when I was riding through at 2pm a few weeks ago.

Was school time and it wasn't the holidays. Must of been 15-20 of them giving their hand signals to the traffic near Melville.

Let me guess - the amount of booze was entirely acceptable, but the number of yoofs was grossly underreported so all the destruction, drunkenness and staggering about was just the physical manifestation of a statistical anomaly?

Well - in good old Wellington WE know who is REALLY to blame for the increase in crime stats.... US, the public!!! Its all our fault - naturally - apparently we are stupid.....

    From TV3's web page...

Wellington's top cop believes people leaving valuables in their car is the major factor in the region having the highest increase in recorded crime.

General crime statistics released yesterday show recorded crime rose 6.9 percent in Wellington to more than 45,000 incidents in the year to June.

Wellington Police District Commander Superintendent Pieri Munro says violent offences were up but credits that with the city's crack down on domestic violence.

He says dishonesty offences were also up but says that is because people are not using their brains.

Well that changes my estimation of police intelligence.

Other breaking news - police say if people weren't there they wouldn't be assaulted!

Hamilton police yesterday attacked people's apathy towards protecting their own homes in the face of the city's continuing burglary problem.

You must feel silly for not only owning nice stuff - but for leaving your curtains open too!

So it's all our fault that we're being attacked and burgled and that the reported crime rate is so high. We should all feel ashamed of ourselves for owning nice things and leaving the curtains open to force the poor unfortunates to steal from us or invade our homes. We should feel ashamed that we go places where we force people to attack us and we should be ashamed that we report these crimes and artificially create the impression that the crime rate is higher than it has ever been.
