I know the feeling, even after my last nasty crash i thought i would get a bright bike so that the bastards couldn't use the excuse "I didnt see you".
I still had a few scares on that bike so now i ride a big black rat. Its amazing how stealth matt black seems to get more attention than bright blue did.

Try 1300kg, 77hp and 125nm for my 1.6L Vitara, that will be doing less damage than a bloody Toyota corolla let alone a Falcon XR6 or XR8.

    road condition

to be honest i like fucked roads.
everytime they seem to fix them here, they drop the speed limit.
Case and point Waihi-Katikati-Tauranga (my old stomping ground), made it motorway spec (took out all my lovely messys corners that made men, men) and in alot of places brought down the speed to 80kph (used to ride most of it 120+).
Fuck you transit and your 4wd friendly corners

Gutted mate - lots of shity drivers around Chch. Seems to me that too many drivers are either asleep, too busy picking their nose, reading their newspapers or otherwise unfocused on their driving. This is bad enough when people are driving a light compact car - doubly so if they're in a "4x4" which will wobble if they try to maneuver too quickly. Then of course we have the wankers who use their vehicles as if it was a weapon and tries to bully everyone else off the roads. Some of these also drives big ass 4x4s btw

I drive a four wheel drive as well though - however this one corners quite well and doesn't have a very high ride height... Legacy GT-B - 280 hps, 1480 kgs - creases the tarmac nicely

But dmouse - to quote Monty Python - "Always look on the bright side of life" ... you should be able to comfortably go out and buy yourself a nice GSXR1000 for the insurance money. (Nah seriously, it's a bloody shame to see an outstanding piece of work like that getting trashed - good thing you're ok though.)

    4x4 problem...

...is often caused by the daft 'flat glass' mirrors that are fitted to (all?) NZ new 4x4's. We had a Nissan Ventura (up-spec'd Navara) for a couple of years - it was a real bitch for having blind spots. Not too bad when we were up north around Kaikohe, but after we moved down to Wellington, there were a few times when I nearly took out other cars during lane changes on the motorway - solely because of the piss-poor field of view in the wing mirrors - and that was despite doing the 'turkey dance' moving my head around trying to see what was in the other lane through the stupid mirrors.
I saw the light, and traded the useless thing in on a swb Mitsi Pajero import, with proper convex mirrors, and had no more problems on the motorway (or with blind spots) after that.
And YES, it gets used in 4WD from time to time (on the dirt, and for skiing), as well as being used as a trailer tow vehicle...

Closest run-in I've had with a 4x4 when I've been on the bike, was near the Matauri Bay turnoff, heading south (towards Kerikeri). Me and another mate had caught up to this thing doing about 80k's - waited for the straight I knew was coming (after medium RH corner) - and indicated, then popped out to pass, planning to cut through the inside of the corner and be past as the straight started, giving my mate plenty of room to pass. Fcuker suddenly veered half into the RH lane, as I was just short (< a car length) of the back of it. I paused a sec, decided I still had plenty of room on the road (including far RH shoulder if needed), so gassed the Duc HARD (was already down a couple of gears), popped out past anyway, and reached over with my left hand and SLAPPED his wing mirror as HARD as I could!
Prick must have absolutely crapped him(her?)self! Looked in mirrors, and said 4x4 was half OFF the road, on LH grass shoulder... Mate behind me was just about pissing himself laughing! Dunno if the mirror survived - but if you don't use it, you lose it. Score 1 to the bikes!

Don't cut corners, never cut corners, don't even think about cutting corners.

If I saw you I'd ticket the arse off you for doing that shit. (and you get 35 demerits for each ticket)

Cutting corners is for losers and brain dead incompetent riders and drivers.

Never, ever cut corners - one day it'll bite you on the bum when a car suddenly appears coming towards you on a corner where you could 'clearly see nothing is coming' - that's if you at least try that 'rule' and aren't one of those drongos that 'cut corners and hope'

Hope my hints are not too obscure about what I think of cutting corners.

How did the drongo driver explain away his incompetence???

Jeez mate thats a shocker, SMIDSY has got to be the most used and most useless excuse any one can use.
Talking about blindspots on 4x4, the worst on my Vitara is right behind me, get a good veiw out the side mirrors, but out the back is absolutely shocking.
The worst vehicle for blindspots I have driven is a late 90s Ford Falcon station wagon. I HATE the bloody thing. The blindspots arn't only behind you, the front pillers each side are horribly big and have caught me out pulling out of intersections and not seeing a damn TRUCK, the things are that bad.

but the guy didnt need his mirrors he did a uturn right in front of me, and he would not of completed the turn due to parked cars so it would of ended up as a three point turn, he tried to do it before the car behind me got to him, as the prick didnt see me !!!

im wonderin about stickin some of those pushbike flashing leds on the front and back of my bike or kacket i might look a prick but they should see me i think ???
