Oh, I see what you mean now.

I disagree, the 10 commandments should be covered by standard ethics. And while they are good values, calling them christian values implies that there's a religious aspect.

You can follow the 10 commandments for any number of reasons, let me give a few:
    1. You'll burn in hell if you don't! (Catholicism)
    2. God will think you're naughty, but if you say "sorry" it's all good cause he loves ya. (Protestantism)
    3. You just feel like behaving in that way. (Egoism)
    4. You feel that it's a good and proper way to behave around your neighbours. (ethics)
    5. It brings you closer to spiritual enlightenment. (Buddism - while their rules are not the same, this is the train of thought)
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

Hmmm, that's a bit harder. The closest thing I can get to (semi-hard) science as a base for ethics gotta be economics. And even then it's a bit far fetched.
Guess you could throw in all sorts of psycho babble (the human mind works best when given tangible boundaries) and neuro gibberish (humans are instinctively social animals) but that's not really inside my field...

Call them anything you like...the title does not legitimise the content. Nor should the content imply a need to go to church or believe in the mumbo-jumbo of religion.
Which should bring us back to the reason for this thread...specifically, the death of someone as a result of weird beliefs, which the state encourages and foists upon us, as long as it is 'maori' stuff....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Enigma means 'scientology'. A weird set of beliefs started by the science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

Well, then he should have said scientology - not the science thingy

I do however think that psycho babble and economics will provide a good understanding of the workings of that society.

But I agree, let's get this thing back on topic... ====> ON TOPIC.

Besides, what's bigotted about being against state-sanctioned mumbo-jumbo? When that very same state won't allow christian-value teachings in schools etc...
I heard that now Sunday school will be banned as 3 or more kids being taught spirituality as christians is educating and they need a trained teacher ffs...

I see that as it is a maori practice it will be swept under the carpet and totally excusable..spoze the rest will drown their sorrows under a keg tap...

The news item which this thread is based on has no substance, in my opinion it is a rendering of a journalists pathetic attempt at sensationalism.

The reality is that a young woman died under suspecious circumstances which appear to be related to a religious ceremony. The ethnicity of the deceased and those allegedly involved in the religious ceremony is irrelevant.

Any attempt by someone associated with the event to excuse the cause of death using cultural or religious reasons is only exhibiting their guilt for the responsibility of the young womans death.

However, it makes for a great news article that stimulates a majority of the populations existing frustrations. The consequence is that a group of innocent people sharing the same enthicity of those associated to the event suffer the unfair and unjust effects of racism.
