CCC loop on 17th Nov

Hey guys,
Sounds like everyone had a fun ride.
I was the one who got the puncture at Motunau, turned out to be a mission!
Once I changed the tube due to 4cm long split (lesson for everyone, carry a spare tube, which I was) we discovered a tear in the tyre beading with exposed wire, so after applying large quantites of tape to the bead I tried to limp home. 2km's later tube blew again, bugger tyre bead rooted beyond repair, at this point I called it quits and parked bike in local farmers driveway. After hitching to SH 1 I was forced to catch a shuttle bus back to Christchurch as no tin topped bastard would stop to pick me up. Once in Chch unfortunately all bike shops were closed due aniversary weekend. Luckily my next door neighbour who some know (Alf) has an identical Dakar so I borrowed his whole rear wheel and headed back up on the Sunday with wife and kids in tow to collect bike.
So bike finally back in garage awaiting a new Dunlop 606 for the Dusty Butt, bring it on!

Bloody BMW's and punctures!!!! BusaJim (R1150GS) and Alfonz (F650GSDakar) and HelenofTroy (R100GS) (I was riding it at the time) and now yours are the only punctures I know of in the whole time I've been riding (3 years)!

Glad you are getting it sorted. Bugger of a time for it to happen. Definatly bring a spare tube and puncture repair kit on the DB!!!

Always do but not much you can do about a f%#ked tyre, think I damaged bead putting it on the night before, to much pressure applied with levers, tyre had only about 500km's on it too, bastard!

Helen and I swapped bikes for a little on Sat. She was murmering about your bike when it came time to swap back but then again I was impressed with the great purple people eater as well (damn wife still wont give in to the calling though)

Oh and our German friend on the red KTM pulled into DAS for his tyre about 30 mins ago. Hopefully he will have a much more interesting trip around NZ thanks to fleethaul and co.

lot's of lucky people this trip, I recorded a couple of bikes being picked up but no actual falls, and I did wonder why FQ was facing the wrong way when we passed him but he was already back in the saddle by then.

Not TKC80's on the other two. Helen has a Mitas E07 but it was me hitting a rock to hard with the front that did that one

Reckon if just parts of these adventure rides are beyond my abilities on the Boxer I mite just find a nice young man to swop bikes again(if no-one tells his wife

) -but i would be very happy if my xmas stocking had a meaty big single in it

Great ride enjoyed by all it seemed. Good to tee up the land access aswell. The German guy on the LC4,Toby i think, looked well able to handle a dirt bike and had a ball. Roll on the next ride. Some pics....
