They can be quite troublesome at times, back in 02 03 when we sold them they did have some funny things happen that just don't seem to happen to other bikes. Stupid things like stators failing on almost new bikes. The engines on the ones we had at the time had some innovative features such as the concentric counter balancer and the barrel casings being part of the crankcase asssembly so they're not the kind of thing you want to try and tackle major stuff on if you're not confident mechanically.
I must add though the importer at the time (don't know if it's still Nigel Bevan) did a good job with support so we never had the parts leadtime of other exotica such as Husky's etc.

Performance wise though they are awesome! The engine aren't super snappy like a Jappa 450, 660 SMC's or NOX but they're really tractable, smooth and torquey and just as powerful. The chassis apart from showing whats on the other side of the bike are really light so they're right up there in terms of handling. The Beringer four pots I tried on the 650SM have go to be one of the best setups I used on any bike (apart from radial Brembo's).

So to some up, One frikken awesome RACE bike, not something to be taken lightly!

The ones on trademe that are of interest are a 450 and a 470, but I would like the larger version (which is about 510, maybe 540, can't remember and the internet is too slow to find out).

I know Husaberg is owned and made by KTM, and they originally broke away from Husqvarna. Though reliability, maintence requires and flaws would be good to know about

Interesting. The barrel being part of the crankcase sounds expensive if the barrel ever seized to the piston, don't like the sound of that.

I always quite liked the open look they had, they're very simple and don't look so cluttered.

Basically they're not the road machine I'm after? Think an XR650R or LC4 are still the way to go, even though they're more farm bike than Motocross bike

Mate, by the time you get 17s, big front brake, suspension and a few engine mods, the old XR650 or a LC4 will be far from a farm bike.....trust me, i've built both

    Ultra smooth at low revs.

Sorry I wasn't too clear about the barrel detail. The cylinder liner itself is replacable as it is a separate part, its just that the everything has to be timed up and put back together, then the crankcase halves bolt back together. They ain't no XR to work on put it that way.

Hmm if all farms had XR650Rs or LC4s I'd be milking cows tomorrow!

Well that's good to hear. I could live with that since those Husabergs look so damn good. I'd have to have another commuter ride though, whereas an XR of LC4 would cover all my riding hopefully

Well I was amazed to see that LC4 towards the start of this thread that had been done up. Looked stunning.

My Dad just told me he heard some of the Australian bike tours businesses that own Yamaha TT600s reckon they've gone as far as 100,000kms without any problems. Sounds great, but they're a bit like the DR650 I imagine?

I'm having a look through the site (very slowly, stupid xtra 'broadband'). I'll look for answers before I ask (after seeing so many newbies on here be crucified).

Are you registered on the site? I'm regoin up and they ask for the name of who reffered you towards the site.

Yea man, in case you guys haven't figured it out, I'm supermoto crazy and have hundreds of pics of all sorts.
Thats why I got a cheap trail bike insted of a cheap cruiser or sport bike.
