Go Girl Let the authorities have a word with them, better chance that they may listen if given a bit of a scare by someone other than parents!
I also have a similar problem round my neighborhood. problem here being the proximity of a rest home and elderly people taking their daily stroll on their zimmer frames, poor buggers don't stand a chance of getting out of the way of these little darlings at speed on the footpath.
Lets educate these future bikers into correct behaviour now and maybe we can save the grief of more accidents or fatalities.
YES its fast and NO you can't have a ride!

One of the parents around here was shocked that I let my son crash his bike. He's only had it a week and if he gets distracted and goes off the footpath He'll fall into the grassy ditch. I make sure I catch him if there's something that could hurt him badly but even then still lower him to where he would have landed.

Now after 4 days of riding, coming off 3 - 4 times a day He's really good at it and I think crashing with style is a great skill to have. He spreads the fall or jumps out of the way and has learned it doesn't hurt too bad as well.
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!

    NO,

I would not involve the authoriries (what sort of safety nazi are you?)

But I would try to have a word with them

Yeah, they will probably take no notice

They will eventually learn - by experience - and it'll take a least two leassons vefore it really sinks in

You can't save people for themselves, and nor should you be trying to.

You'll make the world a better place by being a positve rolemodel instead

+1... I don't see any reasons to involve the Police either.
I see more often that not people complaining about the Police being "over the top" or hassling "us"....why call them?

Christ...I'm going to sound OLD now but back in my day we didn't have all this PC bullshit,we actually shared bottled water too!

I'd just leave them to it myself...I quite often take the CR for a quick blat to test things out...and depending on what I'm testing sometimes I wont chuck on my helmet (if I go off my road I do tho, its a small road).

Busy bodies annoy me when it doesn't effect anyone else...had some twat come and tell me not to ride in a certain place at muriwai beach on sunday...why? "because there is enough beach for everyone". Its like come on, I wasn't anywhere near people, was up at the beach access by the stream trying to learn how to wheelie properly...he was prob pissed I had a small gathering starting to watch me and not him (was getting close to some nice bails...guessing they were waiting for some carnage action).

Highway, no helmet = illegal but your choice.

With these gals, well I reckon the Cops should be called. How would we feel if we did nothing and one of the gals was seriously injured.

where did I say highway and no helmet? I said on my road outside my house for a quick test (like 2-5mins MAX) for fueling, changing setup etc...and I can't then say to someone else...do what I say, not what I do...

if you mean on the beach I was wearing a helmet, always do.

EDIT: hell...if I know I'm doing more then 20-30km/h there is no way I'd not wear one...but if someone else wants to...up to them

I'd feel that they made a choice, took the risk and need to accept the consequences.

Your street is a road / highway.

Guess you cannot be a hypocrite but you could set an example.......

If you call the police you will forever be known as the arsehole next door.

Just have a word with them - if they ignore it - well, let God sort it out.

ahhh, fair enough...thought you were meaning taking the dirtbike for a blat on the motorway! (having a few blonde moments today)

no need to set an example, I believe in darwinisim...if you are not smart enough to know to put a helmet on when travelling at speed (or full stop, if it happens to me when I'm not then I deserve it...best to get me out of this world before I reproduce) then you deserve to die if something happens...we need to evolve as a race as its stopped (see sig).

no kid is going to think anyform of activity is fun if they have to suit up everytime they leave the house, no wonder kids are sitting inside getting fat, nobody hassles you about safety when you are killing people on playstation!

I guess I cannot disagree with control of your own destiny....
