    Nope. Each to their own.

There is a guy from the end of our street that reguarly rides his XR400 up and down the road, occasionally he has a young (5 yrs old-ish) girl on his lap. Neither wear helmets. i must admit, I do wish he'd crash, just for laughs.
FINE. This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

guy at works mate just got a car jack thrown though the drivers window trying to escape a road rage incident and smashed into a power fence. cops were too busy to attend (wtf is going on in auckland if something like this isnt serious enough for the cops????)

if the cops are "too busy" to turn up to this i'd be pretty pissed if they bothered about a couple of kids having fun.

if i was a cop the only way i would work in auckland is if i was kitted up like demolition man and they gave me license to clean that hole up.

    assaults = bang
    theft = bang
    etc
    etc
    etc

stuff it, its clean up time tree huggers!!!

and for those who disagree, i dont care, my world would be so much better to live in once all the crap is out and we can live in peace and have some fun!!

safety standards have now advanced to the state where it's practically a hanging offence for motorcyclists to even push the bike off it's stand without being fully kitted up in body armour, kevlar, boots and fullface

    makes me smile a bit
also makes me feel sooooooooooo oooooooooold

    - usta ride the Honda in an indian cotton blouse, beads, miniskirt and high heels in the '70s ........... t'was FUN

    *sigh*

    nahhhhhhh

it's one of the odd facts of life that, if you don't KNOW what you are doing is impossible,
you just go ahead and do it ........ and survive

    *sigh*

to add a little body to this 'safety' thread ...

........does anybody wanna tell me about how UNHEALTHY the tank water is on our smallholding? how many beasties have crawled into the pipes to die? what nasty little bugs are breeding like - well - bugs in there and how STUPIDLY dangerously we are behaving in drinking it?

hmmmmmm - you can also explain to me, at the same time, why i have been so MUCH healthier since moving here than i was all the time i lived in the city, with its purified, sterilized, dosed and sanitized-for-our-protection city water supply .....

    safety is important
but cotton wool sometimes smothers rather than cushions
    think about it

    - too late to tell you to think before calling the police as you already have - but ............is it our JOB in life to fence all the rivers? stick 'trip hazard' warnings on every kerb? fill in the grande canyon in case someone falls in? at what point does care for another's safety become an intrusion into their interaction with their own life on their own terms?

I spent most of my teens finding places to ride my mini bikes without getting busted.

Like we need some goody two shoes who is supposed to be on our side dobbing kids in.

Could i say a few things.
    1. I know the cop. He is not a traffic cop he is a dog handler so (i think) he dose not even have a ticket book.
    2. He only talked about helmets, bike maintenance and riding positions on the road not full riding gear, not dont ride it 'you will die' kind of stuff.
    3. After extensive testing i did a while back i found that the tank with rotten possum in it tasted better than rotten rat.

If i thought that they would listen to me would i have spoken to them? Yes.
If i did not know the cop i told would i have made the call? No.
Am i going to lose sleep over them because they are Still riding around with no gear? No.

As pointed out above it is the choice of the person i just did not believe they knew the risks. They do now. The ball is in their court.

It is to much when they have been told once and ignored it.

I agree, why should this world be safe and with signs everywhere telling people of evry single danger? It should not but people should get told of a danger like this, if they take the risk then they take the risk. Yes drinking that tank water may have been dodgy, BUT YOU KNEW about it. Guys ride up to the beach every day on big trail bikes at high speeds not usaly with a helmet, certainly Far above safe speeds but they know the risks, i let them be. i genuinely believe these kids didnt know the risks.
