For longer trips I wear my leathers though.
    Grrr for "the girlfriend" comment......LOL
I know, I know, I am pain in bum.

Interesting you give her your jacket and good gloves too, good for you, bet you ride accordingly too!

This is what I am talking about, we all know we need to wear the gear, and there are many reasons why we dont.

If your girlfriend wants to ride pillion and you cant afford the gear, maybe she should consider her own safety and buy her own??????

If im out playing or doing silly stuff i always wear full kit, including armor/leathers /back pad etc, coz I come off at silly high speeds in full race leathers and absolutly shagged them. I'd hate to think what wouda happened if I wasn't wearing them, as it was I still managed to crack my arm and get skin burns and write off my leathers dam it!

If I just cruisin to work etc I usually just wear jeans, jacket and gloves, being carefull of course as low waisted hipsters on a sports bike can cause other problems if your jackets a bit short LOL.

Leather burns hurt, from my observer status. As you say though, better the burn than ??????

Have to say, seeing exposed bits of the internal workings of various parts of the human body is not something I would line up for again. This the main reason I am ATGATT.

Have you got "big hips" or something?

Hear what you are saying, have been guilty of wearing jeans on a bike too, but my jacket is long and covers my girly hip bones........LOL

Bikes should just be banned. Too unstable, no air bags, no sealtbelts, no auto-stability control.

Really, even if you wear all the gear, you are still just a drain on the ACC system.

Stop moaning about the heat or the cold, get a Volvo and be warm and safe.

Then join a local committee to ban hang gliding, boxing, scuba diving, mountain biking, fatty food, and sex without a condom.

Or, mind your own business. Enjoy your own life, and let me exploit my own bad decisions.

Yeah - the only unfortunate thing is that a brain is not a compulsory ADD-ON!

Yeah - the good old Nortons have a fairly upright riding position!

I could've said many worse things, like 'the object'. Or something PC like 'the person of opposite gender that shares mutual feelings with me". And if I said 'the lovely lass' I would've been called soft, and I can't have my macho rep take a hit like that

I value her safety far more than my own (don't think I'd still be here if not for her) so she can use my gear. And I'm quite keen to give her rides since it slows me down. Especially whilst running with no rego or warrant since the bike shop won't get a brake light switch in for another week.

I said for my christmas present I'd rather she spent the money on a jacket for her and I'd chip in.

If you do nothing else with protective equipment, make sure your skin is covered. Once it has been abraded, it's a bastard to replace. Broken bones are a comparative inconvenience.

I wear ATGATT but am finding it makes me ride less than I would like. And after my trip to Raro and feeling the wind and freedom (and being more flexible and able to hear other traffic) (and going 40k of course) I am wondering if I might start doing small around town trips with normal clothes and a helmet.

I've never witnessed a non fatal crash, so I guess the reality of losing skin is still in the 'not my department' category.

Have been to Raro 5 times now and hear you loud and clear about the freedom thing. You mention the top speed limit as mitigating, for me there is another more important factor, over there car drivers are the minority! Bikers own the roads. All car drivers really look out for bikes!
