03/01/2008 - First 250 ride of the year

Been thinking of organising a 250 ride for a while now and figured there's no time like the present.

    Meeting

10am at Shell Westgate planning to leave by 10:30am.

If you're planning to get gas when you arrive please don't turn up at 10:30

    Destination

Shelly Beach for lunch time fish and chips. Route on the day or PM me.

Is this the ride for you?

This is a ride for 6L and 6R riders who already have some open road experience. We will be travelling at the speed limit and you need to be comfortable at 100-110km/h.

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT the ride for you if this is your first time on the open road.

It is also NOT the ride for you if you want to fang it like Sofuoglu. If you want to you're welcome to leave early and meet us there for lunch though.

Those on bigger bikes are welcome if you are happy to stick to the slower pace or head off early.

Please register your attendance on the calendar entry so I can plan for numbers.

    huh?

One thing to take into account is that it's mental driver season so if you're not confident on the open road this probably isn't the time to get experience. That said, if you're comfortable at open road speed and have had one or two longer rides I'm sure you an handle this ride - it was what i did on the first weekend I had my bike and it's easily doable with a bit of confidence (not too much) and a fair amount of knowledge on open road riding (cornering, reading the road conditions etc.).

DT - I'm happy to lead a slower group if required but slow still equals 90 - 100km/h comfortably on the open road.

    See you there!

Lots of motorway riding at 100km/h plus twice on the open road would probably be ok.

Just from reading your bin thread I think giving it a miss might be a good call until you've done some more km with just one or two riders. I'd be happy to take you out separately when I'm around town if you like.

Contrary to popular opinion it's not a sin to take it easy and warm into it

Back at work on the 3rd? Man that sucks There should be a law against people going back to work that early!

Yep that's exactly why this isn't a newbie 250 ride. I won't be caning it by any stretch of the imagination but I can't speak for the other people using the road.

The Monday/Wednesday rides/carpark sessions (or a mentor once the program is back up and running) are the perfect place to get up to speed (no pun intended) for rides like this.

Will see how the numbers pan out and the experience levels and make a call on breaking up on the day. If there's heaps I'd like to do bunches of 4-6 riders.

    Meh.

Unfortunately, it's not really 'back' to work if you don't stop in the first place.

I'll be checking the weather a few days out and posting in this thread to let you know if it's on.

If the weather looks hit and miss I'll confirm 100% that it's on first thing in the morning.

Haha there's not that many roads to get lost on up that way. That said I miss the Old North turn off out with obstacle and ended up back in KKK.

That sucks mate. Do make sure you hassle them frequently eh. I take it the bike is being repaired rather than written off?
