    It's all narrow as, residential driveways everywhere; simply the wrong place to do anything but pootle along. Those roads are more or less just suburbia. I always feel like I'm about to bang my elbows on the trees on both sides through the corners. Even if the road was closed I wouldn't want to cane it along there.
    Have to agree there!

    When you take into account all the hidden driveways, gravel on corners, oil etc and then adjust your speed to give you that safety margin... you end up going through it at like 60k!!!

    Wont go near that road in the winter.... all the moss on the road is like ice when wet!

    Ouch.

    First tight corner (headed to titarangi), the Lefthander marked at 35... came up on her fast 60 ish? peeled back to the early 40's for the turn... sweet less than 10m from the exit.. well into the end of the turn no panic - having fun, the rear goes.

    were u on rear brakes into corner...because if you brough on gas after just been on brakes you might have spun it up ...you were going very slow to be honest.

    i dunno i wasnt there you will have to figure it out for yaself....why are you taking 35's at 40 kph though

    double it.

    Generally marked corners can be taken by a noob in MPH ie 65kmph corner at 65mph (they can obviously be taken faster!) but when you get to 35k corners... take em at 35/40k - especially on Scenic drive.

    Im only talking from large touring bike perspective - small more nimble bikes on the other hand...

    Nah, i avoid using brakes. Ever.
    I was going fucking slow cause it's a bitch of a corner and Hyosungs are not the worlds best bike for getting deep with. I'm guessing from where I lost it - it was probably as I just started to pour on the power heading out... Maybe too much gas on the way out, with some gravel, and a greasy tyre edge? Someone said there are probably 1001 reasons... I agree. Still feels a bit useless not to know why but I guess sometimes shit happens.

    I'm taking Evey in to the guys at Red Baron for an apprasial now - I'll let them give me a quote and if I can do the work cheaper myself I wont get the insurance company involved. Excess is $1,700 FUCKME! Plus the no-claims bonus.

    Oh well... could be worse.

    What needs to be done to the bike? Fairing repairs, bent handle bar, mirror, bar end weight and a clutch lever? Something like that?

    Coming back from that run today...
    The railway overbridge that crosses the road at the Ranui end - there was a bloody TRAIN (thingy) crossing over the road.
    (Big deal - "so what" he says)
    This train had some sort of "road sweeping" type apparatus attached, which then proceeded to throw fist sized bits of rock down onto the road...

    Weirdest thing I have had to deal with - so far.

    (we don't see many trains in D'Auckland you know...)

    Yeah it's impossible to know unless you're doing a full on crash investigation style thing at the scene.

    I'd put money on the gas/lean angle combo being the culprit and maybe hitting moss or shingle.

    Chain lube maybe but I doubt it in the dry. The road would scrub that off unless you had a massive blob of it.

    Did you inspect the tyre,was there chain lube on it?If there was then there is your answer.You also probably gave it too much gas too soon.

    I love those roads, perfectly suited to my bike. Or a motard. JRandom probably feels uneasy there precisely because of his bike; light little 250s (or RG150s) can have a ball there. You do need to keep your wits about you though.

    One other thing I thought of was that many of the corners, especially the tight ones, are terribly corrugated. I don't know what GT250 rear suspension is like, but mine is absolutely pathetic in the damping department, and after hitting a few corrugations (unloading the rear wheel) even my 26hp torque-monster will have the tach needle dancing as the tyre tries to retain grip.

    Fun road, though.

    Scenic Drive aint no playground.
    The road and its conditions are bad enough without the driveways, shadows, cyclists and residents walking their dogs. Its also a favourite road for tourists, sightseers and some of the worst farken cage operators in the city.

    Glad to hear you are OK. Could have been worse. Thankfully it wasnt.

    Remember this time of year the tar can get very soft & even "runny honey" like in places.

    Braking, corning or accelerating in it can be treacherous. A chap on his near new 990 KTM Superduke found that out on a similar type corner here in the back blocks of Taranaki last week. A lil gas too early on exit of corner, rear slide out & he high sided, all at low speed thankfully (as the corner was posted at 20Km/h), but even pricey tyres won't save you on that shit.

    Winter = wet roads

    Summer = tacky roads
