Looks like Dev and Phinox both had beerish looking drinks in front of them but can't see what anyone else has, and as for my drink, as usual it was orange with nothing added, not even ice.

Don't remember anyone repeatedly getting up and refilling, there were also no Jugs on the table.
There was how ever a bottle of Watties tomato sauce on the table there which someone saw fit to bring as the supplied pub stuff is crap by comparison.

A recipe for disaster - a few drinks, a few young guys and a few motorbikes.

When I was younger (just after we left pounds shillings and pennies behind) I found out it took bugger all drink to make me think/ride like I was Captain Marvel.

The number of times it all nearly went pear-shaped and I ended up with the thought "what the fuck was I thinking?" I hate to think - but I was lucky, I never binned.

A favourite cluster-fuck was stopping at the third or so pub en route to a rally and somebody would say "Ah well, we'll cruise of noe eh?" and somebody would say "yep,we'll just cruise - no racing eh" and another would say "definitely no raving for sure"

And at the first bend about half a mile down the road we'd all be white-knuckled, things scraping, bars alomost touching and thinking "shit-shit-shit"

Stay off the drinks until the LAST pub -and then only have one, ya might live longer.

Not defending anyone but pretty much everyone there only had 1 drink and there was a mixture from orange, coke, beer, & I myself had 1 Jimmy RTD. And they also had pretty sizable meals to go with them.
Though having said that a lot of rides have an emphasis for a pub as a destination

That's digressing from the point, but quite a few of us could trumpet about what we used to do around those roads; simple fact is that Dyer's pass Rd bites when it wants too & it's claimed plenty over the years experienced, inexperienced, the works. but even with the limit now attempting to get around that particular bend at said limit on a less than perfect line is asking for trouble.

yeah I didn't think it was the fork seal.

had 1 stella with a packet of chips an hour before, which I had induced over time, had been eating food all day, I'd had a pretty cushy day, I wasn't fatigued, my head was clear.

there may have been some target fixation but i remember looking away down the road, and I didn't hit the railing i slipped in the gravel between it and the road so i reacted before I got to the railing, I didn't lock up (the brakes) but I did apply them lightly and equally to keep the balance only after things went pear shaped.

I think, final judgment, was poor cornering technique, I didn't roll into the corner, didn't relax shoulder let it drop, I didn't lean, I didn't move my weight on the bike but I did try get around the corner.

edit: I lie, it was a steinlarger pure (1.0 standard?)

Only managed to get up to it due to having a Half day at work and had been meaning to check it out for a while, but yeah it wasn't to bad, meeting a few new faces etc.
The ride itself around the bays wasn't anything new as I do it regularly early mornings on the weekends usually figure eight the bays & summit rd before it gets congested with cars & pushies

Unfortunately the one of the problems is that we want it to always be departing from the same place and time no matter which direction we are headed. I have my personal preference and it isn't BK but people wanted to be able to do things such as get a burger before departure or were worried that they wouldn't make it on time if they had to go yet another 15 minutes past BK across town after work when they are cutting it fine already. Fair enough too I guess.
Hopefully once the pedestrian lights are finished and working there, we will be able to send someone to push the button to stop traffic and so all get a chance to pull out.

Problem here is that there is no real leader here to start with. I'm not trying to put down phoenixgtr, just to say that I believe him to be a reluctant leader. He considered the idea of the Wednesday rides the Wellington crew do were good enough to suggest it would be nice for us too but he still wants to be lead himself, not do the leading. Now, just because his was the first voice he finds himself pushed to the front line every week.
I think the biggest step in seeing the ride run in a way similar to TWRs suggestions would be having someone like TWR (pity you live so far away and so can't get here more often) volunteer to step up and take the job so the rest of us can settle back down and follow.
Now I'm a back seat driver too, so don't be looking toward me to step up, trying to get me to do something I really don't want to do is like...

I was following behind him most of the way up the hill and can say that his ridding wasn't that bad, just got caught out on a coner that tightend more than he expected. Expereince will teach him to allow himself a greater margin for corners doing unexpected things.

Fron the look of the road today looks as if he ran out of road and hit the shingle on the edge, but whos to say. Although I came around the corner pretty soon after and the only thing still moving was Dave, glad your alright.

When stuff like that happens on a corner like that in the dark those still upright need to make sure the cars comming into the corner know there is a problem before they enter the corner. And clear off to a safer place, better to lose a damaged bike than a person trying to help
