Through the tunnel and over the staircase to the black tulip first then? Will cut a little out, albeit not even half.

Fun is a loosely used term, It's better to get out on the road & enjoy the ride, discipline and awareness is lacking with a few. Signs of nervousness and lack of calculating what & where risks were popped up last Weds.
Have been following this thread.. & wonder how it is that you can bleet on & on about minimising the chances of accidents, discipline, awareness of risks, etcetc.. & yet YOU felt it necessary to take off from a set of lights, in the middle of very busy central Riccarton, in the middle of the day, with me on the back.. & fang it to hit 160ks in a 50k zone..... obviously showing NO thought for my life/safety in the slightest or any thought for my kids... & yet you felt you could bleat on at me about how dangerous doing the have a go days was...

maybe you need to practice what you preach!

Duvauchelle it is then. I love that hill. I'm with TA in regards to these rides. Ultimately it's each persons own responsibility to ride responsibly and to choose how they will behave on the ride. I will go at my own pace (which is pretty slow) and others should do the same. They shouldn't try to outride their abilities. I feel like a broken record!!

Anyway, I want people to enjoy themselves. Someone trying to ride faster than their abilities isn't going to have much fun, but in the same vein someone being forced to ride slower than they want to isn't gonna have much fun either. That said I will always take it easier on a Weds ride and leave the "blats" for another time.

I want to make 1 change for this weeks ride though. I think we should have a volunteer for a tail end charlie. This person will ride at the back for the ride and ensure noone gets left behind. I know some people have been doing it anyway, but I think the whole group should know who the TEC is so, for example if someones planning on going another way or leaving the ride early they can let the TEC know. Also the rest of the group can see that everyone has arrived at the re-group points (or the destination) as the TEC has arrived.
It doesn't really work on the way home cause people bugger off all over the place and the group splits up alot but thats ok.

So...any volunteers for this week? (we'll rotate cause noone wants to do that every week)

    Duvauchelle

is a little bit far for me,
anyways, the bikes hanging from a hook in the garage with no front end on it, preping for Woodstock.
Fixed the slipping clutch, thanks to the person who suggested washers
ended up using spark plug washers .40 thou thick, perfect , no more clutch slip .....yet!
Enjoy the ride guys, will be thinking of you all keeping the rubber rolling,
Dont forget that windrow of shingle at the top of the hill its caught many a ride that one!

Staircase? Black Tulip? Not familiar with these names, sorry to say Could someone please post a map, maybe, or explain (in Deviant Esq terms )? I'm probably just having a dummy moment...

Still, if it cuts out some of the long straight boring bits, it's got my vote

pifft... had that conversation before...It's still only about an hour and 10 to 20 minutes each way from BK.
Diamond Harbour via Evans pass is claimed 1 hour 10 minutes and we went a bit past that last week to Port Levy.
(all times approximated by google maps of course)

The tunnel being the tunnel and the Black Tulip is the old name for the pub on the Akaroa highway side of Gebbies so at a guess he might be thinking of Gebbies as the Stair Case?
