And wear fingerless gloves - but made in US ones with thicker leather and padding where it counts
And I don't wear body armour
    And I wear tassles.

IF I DO bin? well it'll all go pear-shaped big-time, may I never bin.

But riding like that is MY idea of freedom, others may differ.

Each to their own - hell, a lot of people wouldn't do my job because "it's too dangerous"
Well said SD (not that I agree with the fingerless gloves bit)

I used to wear fingerless gloves - I didn't buy fingerless gloves, and I didn't cut the fingers off my gloves....well I did trim them a bit. They were fingerless because they wore out - that was how you could tell someone who rode forever, their gear was worn out and tatty....like Willie Nelson's guitar, just used to death.I crashed in them a few times, first and second fingers worn through from Amal ticklers....and gradually the finger tips just folded back...so I trimmed them a bit.

I remember crashing in them once.....down Cooks Beach way on the Coromandel. The front wheel went out in the wet and went down so fast my right leg was trapped under the bike - so down the road we went,me on my stomach looking back down the road at my mate following behind.I was digging my fingers into the road to try and slow the bike down, but it didn't seem to be having much effect.Anyway we stopped when the bike slammed into a bank.

I got up hopping around flopping my hands around - my fingers were fucking stinging!!!!! But not a scratch,no blood and no skin missing. We was tough in those days.Yous a bunch of scaredy cats.

Last big trip I did with fingerless gloves and a proper leather jacket, I had insects slipping in the jacket sleeve as the gloves don't come over. One of those annoying 'things' survived the hit and kept itching in the sleeve for a bit. Weird feeling.

I'd forgotten that! The petrol buggered the leather and the tickler wore a hole through. Bugger, I miss ticklers. Such a certain way of getting an engine started. Why the hell don't the Japs fit them.

Nowdays my right gloves wear through where the thumb is stitched on, because of the rubbing on the twistgrip. Then the thumb bit half comes off.

And the kickstart levers used to rub a hole in the side of my boot.

Fashions change before any riders of today manage to wear any of their gear out.

I've decided that zips are the invention of Satan. My jacket zip is buggered, my boot zip is buggered (and something has worn the leather through where the shin meets the foot - what the hell would rub there ? ) and the zips on my leggings keep jamming. I'm not buying anything else with zips. It's not the gear that wears out its the bloody incidentals like zips.

And visors. My FFM Mach1 helmet is still in good(ish) nick (OK a few scratches and so on, and the linings a bit threadbare, but fine for use). Except that the visor has broken on half and you can't get them any more. Fine fish, y' buy an expensive thing like a helmet y'd expect the agents would maintain spares for it. Buggered if I'm going to biff a perfectly good helmet every few years .

Got a brand new AGV,never been used, and the visor is stuffed - sorry, that model is not made anymore.Bloody hell, you can't even put something away for a rainy day.

Let's buy a bullock hide and spend a week making laces. We could sell them on TradeMe.I reckon laces are going to make a comeback...we'll ride the wave to prosperity!

    Snap!

Rode here (Haast) from Riviera of the South in my flash 'direct-from -Sturgis- fingerless-gloves', no problems except near Beaumont an 'insect' went up the sleeve of my leather jacket, did a fandango around my arm and back, never stung and 80km later I got rid of it by unzipping my jacket a bit.

CB got stung on the neck just before Haast, made her wince a tad - but I killed the sucker so no more stinging for HIM.!! (Looks like she has a A1 hickey at the moment.
