    Moderators note

    Easy guys,

This thread is going off topic very quickly and turning into another slanging match...

There are some quite thought provoking posts in here with differing points of view on those 'right lane hoggers' and I for one would like to continue to read about those instead of this shite.

Regardless of which lane you are in seldom do people observe the 2 sec rule on the motorway...but regardless, gratuitous braking like you are proud of doing has an accumulative downstream effect. I suggest you do some research on the "rubberband effect"
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

.... and for the person who was rear-ended by the guy behind who has just changed lanes (try finding a four second gap to move into on these congested roads)... how are you going to make it up to him?

Ok i think we are getting different times of the day mixed up, anyone that is doing 100k's on the motorway and does not leave the 2 sec rule or enuff room to stop is just dumb, sure you are not going to have the 2 sec rule if you are in grid lock.

Remember its the fault of the person behind if they smack into a car/bike/bus/train.

The over all point I am trying to make is...

That I travel in the right hand of the motorway when its busy, I travel at between 100-110k's to keep the flow going however I do pass people in the middle and far left lane in doing this, I also travel in this lane so I don't have to "lane jump" at every off ramp that comes up.

If I have someone come up behind me and I am still in the right hand lane and they tail gate me then i will hit the breaks for less than a sec to tell them to back off.

If I was going to only travel at a top speed of 90k's on the motorway I would not be in the right hand lane as I know that others would want to pass due to the limit being 100k's

Its fine if some of you think its wrong, I think speeding is wrong.

Was there an answer in there?
At busy times when the traffic is slower, the gaps will be less in physical distance than when the traffic is faster, but those gaps are still likely to be less than 2 seconds.
Ever travelled the motorway where its slow and bumper to bumper, but at some indeterminate point suddenly the traffic starts to move faster? There was nothing remarkable about the point where the traffic sped up. Chances are some pillock braked for no good reason at or near that point, perhaps even ten to fifteen minutes previously. The rubberband effect in action.

There is a good reason because some twat is sitting right up your butt, i would rather have them back off with nothing in front of me than having them slam up my butt when i have to break hard.

I should state now (better late than never) that I firmly believe those who insist on parking their arses in the fast lane at 90ish should be given to Ixion for testin the latest batch of gene-o-kleen!

Tis OK, I think some of the frustration caused by inconsiderate people is spilling over to the keyboard.

It is always frustrating when individuals (in the minority, it would appear) attempt to enforce their beliefs / values on others.

Perhaps some listening and consideration of other peoples feelings is more appropriate than attempting to use logic?

I have some opinions on stuff, but I learnt (many) years ago not to try to enforce them on others (when I got a smack in the kisser for my efforts).

Methinks that the righteous, would never behave that way if they weren't in their little cages and were subject to a smack in the kisser too.

As long as you are overtaking people in the lane to your left at a significantrate, i.e not 2-3kph but more like 10kph it is perfectly fine to stay in the right lane.
Unless there is no traffic infront of you in the right lane, then damned if it's too hard to quickly pop into the left lane to let the other people pass before you jump back out to continue on your merry way.

It's not hard people, try not being self centered and ignorant on the road!

Stupidity & inconsiderate behaviour occurs everywhere.

I commute along the North Western every morning and evening and constantly get stuck behind traffic travelling between 80-100. I keep my speedo between 100 and 110 whether I am in the cage or on the bike (sometimes I like to go faster and that is my risk). If the middle lane is clear I will always travel in this lane until such time that I need to change lanes for the purpose of overtaking. It's called common sense, etiquette and courtesy.

Given recent media reports that it's cheaper to drive the cage at 90km than 100km the whole flow of motorway traffic seems to have slowed down.

    My simple rule here is:

If you can't afford to drive at 100km, you refuse to drive at 100km, or your vehicle won't travel at 100km - either buy a more economical, reliant vehicle or stay the fuck off the motorway!!
