So you'll be getting a Dodge Viper for your next sports car (if you can call them that) or have you got one already?
    Cheers

Good luck with the drooling Finn, I have to admit to not being a cruiser rider but the finish and sheer presence of Harleys does impress me.

However.....in my never ceasing efforts to single handedly boost Ducati sales, you should look at a Multistrudel, you may be surprised.

You may also be horrified, disgusted and collapse from projectile vomiting, but you never know.

    HD?
    Get it.
    Ride it.

Reliability of modern cruisers (why do so many KBers spell it 'crusier'?) is not an issue, regardless of make.

There's the ones that spell it 'cruiser' because they're dumbarses, and then the ones who spell it that way to take the piss (like sprotsbike, gargre, etc.)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Sadly I feel not all spell it 'crusier' on purpose....

I think its a good idea Finn. Like you say if you get bitten by the sportsbike fever later you can always get one... however I personally think the Nightrod looks pretty good and have heard some great things about them.

One rule though... Please no tassles ala Scumdog

Refer posts 18 and 21... The "real thing" may be great for the name and pose factor, but if you want a bike to ride, my C50T was more than a match for the group of 1340 Softail, 1450 Dyna Low Rider, 1600 Softail on our last group ride through the Waipoua Forest loop. The only bike that bettered me was my Bro-in-Law's C90 and we were all two-up. In flat acceleration, the 1600 and the C90 could pull away, but the 1340 could only match my little 805. (And that's staying in top, if I wanted real acceleration I changed down!) PS. We weren't racing each other, just enjoying the ride!

The Dyna had trouble keeping up all day as it couldn't go around corners. The owner said ruefully, "Now I know why it's called a LOW RIDER!"

I dropped Betty off at Holeshot for a service today, and had a bit of a prod and squeeze of the new Rocket III Touring. A very nice motorcycle it appears to be. I may take one out for a pootle and report at some stage soon.

A bit out of my price bracket at $31K, but creative accounting is a wonderful thing.

Looks like it'd be quite the go for those 5,000km weeks around the SI.

It's generally acknowledged that the old 1340 engine was a ridiculously underpowered wheezebucket.

As you say, the newer Big Twins go a lot better.

Certainly Harleys offer their bikes at a much higher price point than the metric cruisers, but if one considers the motorcycles without regard to cost, they do still make the nicest bikes.

You should totally take a Fat Bob for a test ride sometime. G'wan, g'wan.

However, I reckon my bike is a real pose machine regardless of brand - the fact that it's also a practical riding machine in its own right is a bonus. Of course I chose the Boulevard because it fitted us both and rode and handled so well I don't miss the GSX-F! As for a chick magnet, well the Missus loves it too!
Yep everything you have said is all good, we have done 36thou in 14months on ours and heading back to the south island on Wednesday for another three weeks, bags choka, plus another bag on the carrier, billys tied on plus xtra shoes wedged in the bunggies, makes the bike heavy that is real heavy as it is tent and all, and when we get back a day later the missus will ask were are we going tomorrow, she loves ours also !!....

They do, but they still don't go around corners as well. Once into the Forest the two Suzuki's just walked away from the Harley's without even trying. I've often said I'd like a Harley, esp the 1200 Sport, can't really say why, there's just something about their style and sound,I guess.

Sigh! I've managed 6000k in 12 months, been too crook to ride as much as I'd like. If current plans work out though, I may be getting out more in the future. We're planning on Paeroa on the17th, which the Missus is real keen on and the Westpac ride then the toy run from Cambridge, so hopefully we''l make those three.

    Sorry,

Ah but you fail to grasp the most fundamentaly basic idea about Harley ownership, that is that Harley owners dont give a flying Fook about how fast other motorcycles are that is not the be all and end all of what makes a motorcycle, its a concept that most people that have never owned anything but jap bikes just dont understand.
