send a PM to this user here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=2997 he has got a 250 viargo and a 500 one to. Also ignore the 70kph speed limit the cops will not ticket you if you are riding properly.

I am liking the Virago a lot but struggling to find info on speeds etc. I did have a wee look at a marauder and it was too slow so am feeling a bit hesitant about buying a 250 without knowing more info about the model.
    cheers for the explaination though
If speed plays such a great factor why are you looking at a 250 cruiser? I think on a general whole they all max out around 130 and they all cruiser about 100. You may wanna take a look at some of naked bikes, Spada jumps first off to mind.

If you're dead set on the 250 cruiser then the Virago is probably your best bet and i'd say go with that, tanks are quite small but I'd say they generally go a wee bit over 100k's per tank if you ride a bit quick which does alright. Just don't test the limits of your reserve..

    Definitely not.

Oh, and the GV250 gets 230-270km from a full tank.

Am looking at a cruiser because I am very top heavy and most sport bikes I have sat on have way too much of a lean forward to be comfortable for me. The odd one has even squashed the puppies. And its not that speed is such an issue but I want to be able to do the speed limit and follow my husband without blowing up the engine.

Dude unless you wear a H cup you have no idea... I suppose I should have said front heavy instead of top heavy. Each to their own, I find sports bikes uncomfortable.

Blossum--My lovely lady (jorja) has er um large puppies
She also has er gosh darn how not to get in the shit--Childbearing hips
shes all of 5 foot tall.
She will relate totally to where you are at.
For you as a first time rider I'd strongly suggest the Honda VTR250 or its earlier brother Spada 250The Scorpio 225,the yamaha SRV (or even the latest model SR) or the GB250 honda
All of these are unfaired bikes with neutral riding positions --so no crushed puppies . All will easily do the speed limit relatively easily.

It's a wonder Crashe hasn't been on this thread already saying how great the Yamaha 250 Virago is and all its virtues!!!!

The Virago will cruise no problem at between 100 - 120 km an hour. You will get about 200 km from a tank of gas at road legal speeds. It is a very comfortable bike to ride if you like the cruiser style. The best thing is its built for the more vertically challenged of us. I am 4ft 11 and I can reach the ground no problem at all!!

As others have said once you are out of the moon boot go out and try a few. All the best with the healing.

See if you can use your "top heavy" excuse to get an exemption for a bike like a SV650.

Been out all day on my virago 250........ and only just found this thread.

Ok I have gotten mine up to 130/140 but usually stick to 100/110kph.
As I like to cruise and enjoy the ride and the freedom.

Tank is 9.5 litres...... should get around 200kms before it needs to go onto reserve. Runs on 91 petrol. Lube the chain regular (every 500kms) and change the oil (every 5000kms) and change the oil filter every second oil change and do other regular maintainence and the bike will run and run...

As said before they are great bikes...... and good for those that are short.
Me, being all of 4foot 12 inches tall I can reach the ground with both feet when stationary comfortably.

They are great for around town riding, easy to move around..also great for out of town riding.
I have ridden my all the way up to Russell via Old Russell Rd and all the way down to the Wellington area. Handled it really well.

But do check out other bikes to see what is the most comfy for you as it is YOU that will be riding the bike.

Prices: New $6999 and second-hand $3500 up to $4500 approx

Sorry to hear that you have injured your foot.... and good on you for sticking to your guns and waiting until the Dr gives you the go ahead to ride.

Hi Blossom. I have a Hyosung GT250R. Korean bike. Take a look here http://pages.quicksilver.net.nz/paua/DSCF3163.JPG
I absolutely love it. It does have a few little niggles though, which I am going to get sorted out next week hopefully. Nothing major, just niggles...
