You know an awful lot about irons for a married man Ned...

Besides, the colour should be a light anthracite...

    Wink

Got the email to and checked it out. It's a brown recluse spider which is similiar to the violin spider. Has been known to kill small children in the states.Has nasty cytotoxic venom (cell destroying) and for the unfortunate few can result in injuries seen in the photos. If you look closely at the pick you can see the violin shape on its back. They come out at night and wander around in search of prey, not aggresive but will bite if pressed against your skin as in when putting on your clothes or rolling over onto one in your sleep.Daddy long legs are venomous and can bite through your skin but the venom is of no major consequence.

I don't know about anybody else but have you seen how many web sites about the spider all show the same 10-day infection photos???

Noticed this as my attempts at researching the topic kept giving me de-ja-vu.

To me it looks similar to a ''Fiddleback'' spider. Known in Melbourne & Adelaide.Toxic. Those lesions are similar to White tail bites( which only affect some UNlucky people. Just be thankfull you dont have our lovely Atrax-Robustus --the Sydney Funnelweb. Usually fatal without 1st aid & antivenom.
Or the Box Jelly fish .or the Cone shell . or the Bush Tick or the Blue Ringed Octopus..... google these nasty critters.
