    Stuff wot annoys me

You have all probably seen those boxes on the poles at the side of the road that flash "Slow...Down...Now!" What you probably don't realise is that if you slow down it will show you your speed. Must have a radar thingymy in them. Seems the powers that be have adjusted them so they can spot a motorbike. That's nice of them to think of us isn't it.

So why the fuck don't they do the same thing for traffic lights? Just spent god knows how long at the lights at the bottom of Haywards hill waiting for them to change. Sat through half a dozen changes but would they change for me? I was just about to run the lights when a couple of cars turned up and tripped the lights.

    Fucking irritating.

Ha ha , there was a story about scoots and bikes not being heavy enough to trip lights on tv not that long ago. Bottom line is that legally you're stuck there till they change. Yeah right. Would they be able to make the sensor more sensitive to lighter vehicles?
I usually wait for a while and if nothings coming I go - at night I hate sitting all alone at a set of lights, kinda freaks me out. But before I get told to htfu or "well don't ride at night then" I get over it. (Still don't always wait for the light change though).

Oo, another one of these threads. The advice given to solve this problem from memory if,

    - Stick a big-ass magnet to the front of your bike.
    - Rev your engine creating a magnetic wave
    - Put your centrestand right over the sensor

And that's all I can remember..

But those speed detector thingies are fun, if only they recorded your speed over the speed limit too.. that you could get a high-score table going.

Actually, it is a disruption in a magnetic field that triggers lights, not weight. This field is adjustable, so if your bike doesn't trip them, complain to the responsible authority to have it set to a more sensitive level.
And legally, I understand that if you sit through 2 cycles without getting your turn, you may 'proceed if the way is clear'. This would apply to a system where there are 3 or more light phases. How one gets on with a simple 2 way system I don't know....a 'reasonable time'?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

There's a set of lights down here in Christchurch that goes so infrequently that even if it knows you're there you'd wait an eternity to get through. It's quite common for a bus to pull up at the offending set, driver hops out of his bus and wanders over to the edge of the intersection, hits the pedestrian crossing button, wanders back over to his bus and hops back in, in time for the lights changing and off he goes. Me? I'm far too lazy for that kind of effort. As long as noone [important] sees me...

They have put one of those speed detector things at the end of a long straight up here (Windy Ridge heading south for those that know the area) I thought that was a bit silly really, imagine seeing how fast you can go at the end of long straight

There's one of those speed signs just down the road from my place.

Come past it under 50kmh and it shows the speed and "Thank You, Safe"

As if just being under the limit automatically == safe

I see a ton of distracted morons that would not be safe even at walking pace

Yet another example of your taxpayer dollars being used for bullshit
